Fan Belts
I'm in the process of finishing up a cummins swap into a 2002 Chevy using a 1997 Cummins out of a Dodge, now Ive used an alternator from a 1992 Dodge cummins as the original was needing a rebuild and just had it laying around. I'm in need of a NON A/C belt for the engine, Now my question to you fine gents. Why would there be a difference between the 1st and 2nd gen Non A/C belt lengths? 1st gen (64.375") vs 2nd gen (65.922). From everything I can tell they share every rotating part assembly Alternator,Water pump, Tensioner ect. . . Is the fan clutch pulley different? I've searched all over for this and simply can't find an answer. Thanks in advance.

The '91.5-'93 and the '94-'98.0 12V have different fan hubs and the pulley is in a slightly different location, changing the needed belt length.
I see no reason why the '92 alternator would not be fine on the '97.
