Yours should only have power when cold. If it's running better with the KSB on, you need more timing - either because you have a fuel supply issue (air or insufficient flow) or the base timing is retarded.

I didnt get ot tweak the pump on this motor yet. would that help the pods? Since the pump is all the way at the head i will have to take the front cover off and jump it one tooth. Will that be enough? but it still runs a little rough when the KSb is on but it would be drivable. As it is without the KSB it wouldnt even be drivable.

I wanted to rule out the holley pump as one of the factros so i stuck the end of a fuel line into a gallon jug of fuel to see if maybe the holley wasnt pumping enough flow. But that juts made it run even worse. So i hooked the pump back up and it still runs rough but is better when the KSB is jumped. I didnt tweak the pump yet so will that have any problems with the pods not getting enough fuel? Thanks

I had similar issues not to long ago. My motor was starting to have little quirks and wouldn't run well at all. My turbo seals were going bad, but I didnt have the $ at the time so I drove it anyways. It got to the point where it would idle but wouldn't run well past idle at all. I would try to find out how much oil your getting through there. Mine actually got so bad the day I was swapping turbos out. Oil was coming out the tail pipe https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/images/smilies/laughing.gif
Anyways, JMHO. Good luck!

Skinny What regulator did you use for your holley pump and where did you mount yours? I have on my truck and am curious to see where others mounted them. I guess i will order a turbo seals and fix that to see if that helps.

There is a rebuild kit on Flebay for the H1C is that everything i need to rebuild it? There is minimal shaft play but the seals are leaking.
Flebay number: 160227598320
Thanks

I decided to jsut go the the cummins store and buy a cummins rebuild and pay the extra price. I rebuilt the turbo today and it made no difference. still missing at mid to high rpms. but starts and idles perfect.

If you think timing is the issue, pull the front cover and confirm the pump gear is timed correctly to the cam gear per the Cummins procedure. Believe it's the letter E on the pump gear that will line up with the single dot on the cam gear.

Since you can try about anything at this point, you might pull the fuel return banjo bolt at the rear of the injection pump and confirm it's the correct type, ie not the same as the two at the fuel filter boss. Or see if it's been drilled out. I'm thinking possibly if it was the wrong type or been drilled out, the pump might start and idle fine, but then wouldn't be able to hold pressure with higher load or rpm's. It's used to regulate case pressure in the pump.

I still think it's the injection pump, not air.

gilbert. I have to look at that becuase i pulled one out form the Ip side of the filter and it was one that had only to tiny holes and a small filter within the banjo bolt. I bought a new correct bolt for the filter. i will check that it probably has the wrong banjo bolt.

Yeah, the one with the tiny holes belongs in the pump, not the filter head. It'd be nice if that was all that's wrong.

Hey Machomopar, sorry I didnt respond sooner. I dont have a regulator on mine. I feel the holley doesnt flow enough to cause problems due to pressure. Especially at WOT. It is definately better that the stock LP and I intend on keeping it on the truck for a while. I feel the holley is really a nice pump. Many disagree. Its just not big enough when you start to flow a lot of fuel. JMHO

I tohught it would put out a higher pressure then what the VE front seal can tolerate. Thanks for the info. i am going to try that banjo bolt when i get home.
