Engine stutter with Edge EZ

After installing my injectors I can really feel when the ez starts fueling, but I also notice a stutter at about 2000-2200 rpm, so I unplug the ez and it runs great. Im thinking the stutter has been there from the start but the new injectors make it more noticable. Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks
Randy

Randy,

How is the idle? Start easily? If you have these and the stutter I suspect pump wear.

Hard starts and idle troubles are an indication of internal pump wear. I can fix it with pop pressure, but if the idle is good and it starts easily...it might be the EZ.

How is everything this AM RJ?

Great, Been talking to Bob W. about his last dyno run. Got the hots for a set of your lattest & greatest Mach 4's! Just need to finish up my External wastegate project to see if I can control EGT's with any more power.
Thanks for asking.

RJ,
You will be impressed with the EGT reduction of the 4's. The smoke is lower than your 2's too. It sounds crazy I know. I have a tough time convincing people sometimes. With no box and your B-1, I suspect you will make 350. Box on will exceed 500 with less smoke and heat than your current set-up. No joking.

Nope, he's not joking! I would swear that my 4's have less smoke then my 1.5's did. I don't say it often, because people think I'm nuts.

On topic... Check your lp pressure, and ez connections, but vp starting to get weak would also be a very likely possiblility.

I got the comp (untapped) and mine studders too but when I turn it off it goes away.I believe its the added timing, It only happens when I get on it hard on the most aggresive setting 1x5.

charlie8301,
is this a stock auto that you have . cause that shutter most likely is the tc slipping . deppending on the condition of the tranny now that its started slipping already you might be able to get away with a tc & vavle body but since its slipping now you might just have to do a full rebuild .

Yes it is still a stock tranny, but when it stutters the tach drops, not rises like the tc started slipping, also it does it both when the tc is locked and unlocked, and it cleares up above 2200 rpm?

Torque Converter would be my guess also. Tranny overload! Do you feel it in all gears? Can you accerate gradually through that RPM without shudder?

stutter

I have a very similar problem and I posted the ? a few months ago(do a search if youre interested in reading it) mine is a 6 speed with a sb con ofe clutch, many still wanted to blame the clutch but after 2200 rpm it wnet away. Sent the ez to edge they said its a ok-installed a comp, guess what same problem changed injectors, same again. The only way it doesnt shudder at all is with the box off. If I dont lug it between 1800-2200 rpm its fine. If I hammer it with box on 5x5 its also fine. Dont be so quick to blame the tranny as others have had a similar problem.
Hope this helps.

I know that im pushing the limits of the tranny and 90% of the time I run with the ez off. I also have to have enough boost so that the ez is fueling 100% before it will act up. It seems like I would have the biggest problem with TC slip when I hit 10 psi (where the ez is set to fuel 100%), but have no problem there.

I had the same problem with a 99 w/6-speed and 3.55. My stutter occurred while under load between 1750 and 2000 rpm. I purchased the Edge EZ from Piers Diesel Research and they were great about it. They tried adjusting the Throttle Position Senser with no luck. Piers called Edge--they had no ideas. I offered to take my truck to Edge for a few days (they said great). Visited Edge, they checke, re-checked, installed a new one, and an Edge Comp, with no success. They were very surprised that I had a 99 with a 6-speed. They admitted they had a problem with 2000 6-speeds, and had to do some reprogramming. I made arrangements several months in advance to visit Edge with my rig and rv, at no insignifcant expense. At the time I made the arrangements, they said that if they could have the truck for a couple of days they could determine and fix the problem. When I arrived, and they realized it was truly their problem, they all of a sudden had no time available to do anything. Piers very graciously gave me a full refund on the product.
