D70 SRW to DRW
D70 SRW to DRW
I did a search and came across some d70 dual to SRW info. I have access to a d70 DRW axle, but its non ABS. Can I pull my axles, and install these axles in order to save my ABS, or are the axles/bearings a different setup all together?

You mean to tell us, you have faith in Dodge's lame RWAL system? Most of us unplug it and have a regular braking system.
Well, no I dont
I had heard that disconnecting it will make the rear wheels lock up all the time, funny thing is after a good rain or going through some water, my lights come on-which means the RWAL is disabled, and I cant say anything feels different.

I've never been a big fan of Anti-Lock brakes. They simply allow unskilled drivers to hit whatever they're going to hit anyway straight on. They can also cause low-speed accidents by unlocking the brakes when you really want them locked like when the kid runs out from in between two parked cars. Who cares if you slide sideways on dry pavement as long as you can stop before you hit the kid. JMHO.

My truck with the antilock disconnected is scary. It'll lock them up, turn the truck left and send the truck into the oncoming lane on a panic. I learned that when it was out for a few weeks before I learned how to reset it.
I think if I were to disconnect it permenantly I would go with an aftermarket proportioning valve and get it set right.
As for the conversion..I thought the antilock was a sensor on the ring gear comparing the ring gear spinning and the vehicle speed.

Den, i recently simplified my brake system, took out the rwal and factory PV. the aftermarket adjustable works great, i can turn the rears down when i'm empty and turn them back up when i'm loaded down. i only ripped it out cause i couldn't get it to work and didn't want to spend the $ on parts. on my 92 the system is still working great, so it will stay like it is. (sorry it's off topic)

Like, when I'm sliding sideways down a silty reverse-banked downhill curve going about 55. In that situation the anti-locks are all that let you have any steering at all. Sure, you shouldn't have been going 55 on a reverse-banked downhill curve anyways, but I didn't know silt was all over the road (it was nighttime), and the RWAL saved my from flipping over into a 50 foot construction grading.
The only time I find them annoying is when I'm doing low-speed technical driving executions, but I like them when they keep me from locking and sliding into the wrong lanes or going sideways. Right when I first had my truck my brakes were terribly out of shape; I was going about 75 on the freeway and I went to drive by a car on the shoulder, but he decides to punch it into my lane right in front of me. My driver side brakes locked up immediately, my passenger side brakes did something else entirely, and I skided sideways across three lanes of the 91 with my steering wheel turned to the lock in order to keep from flipping. I was about a second and a breath from barrel rolling, and if about 15 cars (and a semi) weren't really good at their evasive driving I wouldn't have had my truck very long. (I didn't have any insurance at the time, either
.) Moral of that story is to not have awful brakes, but RWAL do help at fast speeds notwithstanding.
Another thing is when your grabby brakes decide to lock up at 80, they don't always want to let go, nor is that always the first thing you're thinking of. And it doesn't take much of an alignment problem to put yourself into another lane by the time you're fully stopped. At any rate, RWAL sure saves you're tires. After the lock-up incident mentioned above, I had a left-rear tire that had 3/16 tread in some places and NO tread in others.
