I'm looking at buying a 98-02, but can't decide what I want. What is the difference in fuel mileage between a srw 2500, srw 3500, and drw 3500? I really will not be towing that much of a load (9500#'s probably once a month on average) and will be using it for a DD. I have always been parcial to drw trucks. I had a 98 drw 3500 with Auto trans and it averaged around 15mpg. I would prefer a 4x4 manual trans srw ext. cab truck.

There were no SRW 3500's until 03. Mileage is gonna vary between trucks. Sounds like you want a SRW truck, so a 2500 is for you.

The 2500 will do all your towing at that weight. SRW makes a easier DD truck. Short bed even eaiser to park. Axle ratio will have a lot to do with the milage. Look around and you should find the perfect truck for yourself.

Thanks for the responses but I don't need advice on what to buy, I will buy which ever I find the best deal on. I just would like to see what everyone is averaging mileage wise between the 2500 and 3500. I'm not trying to sound like I'm ungrateful for the responses.

My truck and daily driver in sig. gets 25-27 in town and 20 on the highway. But my dad's gets 14 avg. all stock, 96 same truck but his is a cab and chassis. His old 94 auto 3:73 i think, all stock got 12 avg. Those are my comparisons between drw and srw. Although these are 12v's just noticed your lookin for 24's

I get a consitant 18 mpg for just about everything I do. From pure highway to 50/50 driving, it stays the same. Best I've gotten is 21, taking it slow.

Typically I get about 16mpg with my 3500, 4X4, auto, 3.55 gears.

truck in sig. hand calculated is around 14 mpg right now. Was higher, but VP-44 not going to full advance (I believe) is reducing my mileage. 4.10:1 ratios, auto 3500 4x4 2001.5 longbox Quadcab.

where do you live? Its going to make quite a difference depending upon how cold it is where you are. I average between 7-11 mpgs city in winter and 16-20 highway. Summer is about 12-16 city and 19-24 highway

I've been around 16 (overhead computer) for the last three months, but when i got the truck in october i remember seeing 17.5 and 18 alot (average). Now i think that i get slightly less than what i should be because i have a 1 mile commute up a steep gravel road to get to work and when it is 17 degrees overnight, the engine is cold and the oil is thick and so the overhead reads alot of 4 mpg all the way to work ( i do not want chips in my paint). also, i dont do a whole lot of highway driving to bring that average up. this will be my first summer with my cummins and i am looking forward to much higher numbers!

I have a 4x4 dually and get 18.5 on the highway and 12 or 13 in town towing a trailer. This is all from the overhead computer. In the 8 years I've had the truck I have never hand calculated the mileage. As big as this truck is I am very happy with the mileage.
