Clutch Questions ???

hi guys

I have been planning on putting a 450hp south bend clutch in my truck this spring that costs $900 but , today I got the new Summit catalog and I see that Ram Clutches makes a 450hp clutch RAM-98907HD which costs $515.69 my question is. Has anyone tried it? and have good or bad things to say about them.
Thanks Dan

The first question I'd ask is: Is it a 13" clutch? If not, don't bother.

Is the 13 inch Clutch far superior to the 12.25 one?? I have been having issues with my 13in one. I spoke with a guy who is a clutch remanufacturer, he said the 13 in original cast plate one had alot of issues with chatter.. He recomended that I go with a lighter stamped 12.25 one. I have a D350 1ton non Dually 4X4 Reg. Cab. I don't haul very much with it .. He said this would be fine for my application... What do you guys think? should I change the stock 13 to a 12.25? Thanks

dan, go with the SBC. my ofe may be a unique animal, but the 450hp rated clutch is holding my power with no trouble.
go with SBC, and if there is ever a question, peter will jump to help. you do get what you pay for.

Crank, the 12.25" has less surface area to hold the torque. I wish I took a pic of my original Sachsclutch before I sold the tranny. It had 160,000+ miles on it, 3 sled pull hooks, and was a farm truck before. Did 2nd gear burnouts, pulled stumps. No joke. It still held great before I wreaked the truck. About 20% of the flywheel was blue

Trying to save the first time equals paying twice in the end for a clutch.

Try Dial-A-Clutch.com. That is where the local Ford dealer that my brother works for get all of there truck clutches. I also buy from there when we do side jobs. I have not looked up a stock sachs, but i would imagine they would have them on there. Tim
