Diagnosis..? Clutch Master Cyl or Clutch Slave Cylinder??
How does one know/check to see if the Master Clutch Cylinder is bad vs. the Clutch Slave Cylinder?
If I put it in gear at a light and hold the clutch down after 6 to 10 seconds it bleeds out and engages in gear and I have to either take my foot of the pedal and move or kill the motor to take it out of gear. I have to keep it in Neutral at lights until I need to move then quickly put it/out of gear. Other than that it still shifts fine going down the hwy.

1. Sounds like time for new/updated clutch hydraulics.
2. I never hold the clutch in at a light unless I know its going to change very soon. Puts alot of wear and tear on the throwout bearing and main bearing thrust surfaces.

I have no leaks from either cylinder, but some others mentioned the slave is the one that does most of the work and wuld be the probable cause of losing pressure by bleeding by...(?).
Any advice on how to replace this without an Uh OH...!!

doesn't really matter which one is bad, you have to replace both anyway, comes as one big unit already full of fluid & primed, a little costly, but a real easy fix, just a bouple of nuts on the slave cylinder & a couple on the master, & I think two screws on the resevoir (sp?) & then one plug in, it's a little tight down there under the pedals & all, but take your time & it's a straight forward fix, good luck, dusty

Thanks Dusty,
I ordered a slave cylinder off the net (ac delco) 2 days ago hoping it would be the one needed, saved 42.00 and had free shipping. If I need the master I guess I will order that as well and save 28.00 vs local difference at parts houses.
Thanks for the reply!!

The master usually is the one that goes bad. The slave can't bleed pressure, it either works or leaks. The master will bleed pressure internally but never leak externally.
I've got to get another kit from the dealer tonight - at least mine is still under the 12/12 parts warranty for another 14 days so it'll be free.
