clutch help....

i recently purchased a truck (92 w250) with an NV4500 trans. in it. the onwer used the Advanced Adapters bellhousing and tail housing so that everything was a direct bolt in. yesterday we swapped my getrag into that truck and the NV4500 into my truck. along with the swap i put in a South Bend 13" Con OFE clutch. after everything was installed and checked we fired it up. it is very hard to get into gear even with the clutch fully pressed. the pedal pressure is very light and when you push the shifter towards a gear the truck seems to bump foward slightly. it really feels like the clutch is not realeasing fully. all instructions were followed. the metal face was put towards the flywheel and the organic towards the pressure plate. the friction disk has flat side and thick side like the clutch we pulled out we put the thick side facing the tanny (thick side, maybe called a hub) please help i don't want to hurt the new clutch, directions in the boc were NOT helpful as to how i should face the friction material, the one i took outs had THIS SIDE TO FLYWHEEL stamped in it... wish it were that easy, thoughts please! and thanks in advance

It sounds like you've got it in there properly. I would call SBC tomorrow to see what they say. In the meantime, pump the pedal in and out a bunch, it should self-purge any air.

i measured the travel of the piston that pushes the fork in and it is the same (within an 1/8th inch) of the other truck... i will push the clutch a bunch tomorrow we've done a good bit of that already.

talk to south bend most definetly , they may tell you to burn it in some. as in burn the clutch some to get the face of everything mating properly . but do not do this unless instructed to do so.

the best way to bleed the clutch ( sence there are no bleed screws) is to push the slave in and it will push the air out to the top. you may have to do it several times and then pump your clutch. I've had to do it many times.
