Changing flex plate
Ok so this really sux changing the flex plate on a trans that was out 5 months ago, really wish I had suncoast change it then (but thanks John, @ suncoast for dealing with my repeated calling for help).
Ok the plan reamove all the bolts on the tranny and replace 4 of them w/ 6" grade 8 bolts. Disconnect the kick down, shift linkage. Disconnect the hard trans fluid line from the tranny on the drivers side. Put the t-case in 4 low (all the way in the up posistion), disconecth the yoke u-joint. And dissconnect all the electrical stuff.
Un bolt the trans/t-case x-member and set on jack stand (same location as stock just unbolted from the frame.
Roll the truck forward VERY VERY carfully untill the trans hits the tunnel, or untill something gets in the way.
Install new flexplate @ 55 ft/lbs and mark with paint to correspond with the arrow on trans to engine adapter.
Bolt up the TC @ 24 ft/lbs.
Questions:
1. My Matco flywheel turner is in Florida, how do i turn it?
2. How do i (with a wrench) torque the TC to @24ft/lbs since i dont have the fancy "tool truck" interchangable heads on my torque wrench?

2: I didn't have that fancy tool either. I just put a box-ended wrench to it, and sorta guesstimated the 24 ft/lbs. Lock-tight helped assure me it wouldn't work itself loose.
It's done just fine for the last 50K or so.
NOTE: I didn't move the truck, and instead, moved the trans jack backward. Worked OK for me. Just make dern sure, if it's gonna fall, it doesn't fall on you.

Use a deep socket and a regular torque wrench and do it through the access hole on the passenger side of the bellhousing adaptor. Take the down pipe out of there to make getting at it easier. There simply isn't enough room from the bottom to get at the torque converter bolts anyway and your going to have to take them out of there that way.
I did what BC847 did. Locktite and torqued to goodntite.

when the guy's at work ask me how tight to get a 1" bolt, I tell them to get it as tight as they possibly can, then go another 1/2 turn.it confuses some of them.

Ok, so working in the snow in the street on ANYTHING suxmore than changing a flexplate, unless your changing a flexplate in the snow on the street.
Just a thought, would it be best to put something under the engine to keep the head from smacking the firewall, I just used a ratchet strap from one side of the from to the other side. All I have left now it to break the 2 bolts loose from the trans x-member adapter. You non 4x4 guys have it made.
If you are getting a tc put in get a new flexplate

I did it the other way, when the flexplate blew I put in a new T/C. The wife was confused about how a $150 flexplate turned into a $1000 job. I just it explained it as the, "Might as well factor"
