93 Flex Plate

I have a 93 with a A518 tranny, it has broken 2 flex plates. The first was at 60,000 miles and the 2nd at 113,000 miles. The first was done under warranty so I didn't get to see it, but the 2nd one I replaced and it was a fatigue break. The center was broke out. Has anyone else had this problem? The flex plate is $500.00 and a lot of trouble to replace especially since mine is a 4 wheel drive. What I did when the 2nd one broke I got one from a wrecked 89 and put it in. This one was a machined flex plate instead of a stamped one and so far so good. I have 193,000 miles on the truck now which broke the 60,000 mile curse.

Re:93 Flex Plate

When you go back with the flex plate, go with the 95 and newer flex plate. These are alot stronger than the earlier ones and they bolt right in place of the old one.

flex plate 1995 Cummins part numbers:

Chrysler Part # 5015709 Price $295.00
Cummins Part #3946161 Price $ 94.22

Re:93 Flex Plate

My '93 also dropped the flex plate and I went with the same part that was listed above. I saved over 250 dollars. Cummins couldn't find the part until I gave them the part number and then it suddenly appeared on the screen. Thanks to everyone on this sight for the info.
Check everything while its out. I changed mine without realizing the flexplate ripping out put enough force on the crankshaft to break off my thrust washer which then caused my rear main seal to go. Tranny out twice and engine out once to get it all fixed. Make sure you check crankshaft end play before reinstalling the flexplate, just in case.
Good Luck
