Body Parts

I ran into a large animal on my way to our property and smashed in the front of my 92. I am wondering if I can use parts from gas trucks, 91 to 93 guessing. Basically will need everything in front of the cab.

Some of the parts from a gasser will work. Things like the bumper, the fenders, the chromed plastic grille and the hood.

Things like the core support, radiator, fan shroud, fan hub, A/C condenser, intercooler will be 91.5-'93 diesel part only.

BTW, I will have ALL, or just some, of the parts needed to fix this truck in VT.

Cool I will get with you for prices when I get it tore apart so I know better what I will need. Thinking about getting a bigger inner cooler, and radiator since I gotta replace then anyway.

You don't need to go with a bigger radiator, the stock unit cools just fine.

As for a bigger intercooler you have really only have a couple options, the all aluminum power stroke and a 2nd Gen cummins units. On the 91.5-93 trucks the PS unit works best, the 89-90 Non-IC trucks seem to work better with the 2nd Gen unit. I have the PS unit on my crewcab and it was a bit of work and a tight fit....you can check out my install in my build thread.

Elk. Was blinded by an on coming idiot didn't know how to turn off his brights and it was too late by the time they did. Went back to find it since I have an archery tag but it wondered off leaving no blood trail.

From your username, license plate, and sticker on your windshield I’d surmise you’re a Chris LeDoux fan???

Glad you weren’t hurt by the collision

Thank you, just the truck and my pride. Indeed for over 40 years. Was going to his show when they were in small venues and watching him ride at the big shows in the early 70's.

Looks like it’s time for a heavy duty bumper and grill guard too huh? But I wonder with something as big as an elk would it just transfer the energy to the frame instead of all the crumpled sheet metal?

That's what I am planning on getting and will hopefully never have to find out what will happen to the frame. Plus I figure it's a good place to mount a winch to help when we start getting our property ready to build and move to.

Yes he was. I am from Utah and he use to do quite a few small shows here when he was starting out. Got everything he put out on 8 track somewhere around here.

i agree with the stock radiator. I ended up swapping to a larger Griffen Aluminum radiator after a shop messed mine up rodding it out, and frankly the aluminum doesnt seem to cool as well as a OEM radiator did.

I hear that from a LOT of old muscle car and truck guys.
Keep that OEM brass radiator going for as long as you can.

On my trip pulling the 5th wheel trailer from CA to OK the OEM temp gauge went all the way over to the last mark at times. The truck kept going though and never boiled over. I have all new hoses however and 100% antifreeze. IDK is the 50-50 stuff would be better or worse under these conditions. Of course I have no idea if the OEM gauge is accurate as to what temp is too hot. It usually runs about the senond tick from the low end. I have the stock radiator.

Mostly I was worried about keeping the EGT under 1300 degrees to keep from melting the turbo. I have the thermocouple in the manifold before the turbo.
