I know from experience that straight antifreeze will freeze sooner than mixed sounds stupid but I’ve had that happen to me.I think that mixing it properly will raise the boiling point of it also.I’ve been using Cat lifetime antifreeze myself .But you running straight It may not cool as good either.But I’m not a chemist.

Several decades back a church friend and I hit a bull elk at 70 mph just south of Missoula, MT. Lucky for us he had a bull basher bumper on his old farm truck and flipped that thing into the bed. Broke the windshield on the way by, but did little other damage. Took it home and put it in the freezer.

I sure wished we could have found the one that got me. Would be nice to have a freezer full of elk about now. But we have extended hunt areas so got a good excuse to hunt for a couple more months.

 

The core support I would think would be your toughest part to find.Do you think it’s salvageable or have you had any luck finding anything yet.

 

I try to be home before the dusk for that reason of hitting a deer.That would surely ruin ones day.The rut will be kicking in late October here in Pa then anything goes.

 

I have not found anything yet locally. I have not been able to tear into it yet to know the full extent of the damage. Hoping to get time in the next few days. My grandson is pretty good with body work so I at least got that going for me.
I was on my way to our property after work to start our archery hunt for this year and it came out of the dark shadows. I usually head out after work. I am not a fan of being in the valley but for a few more years before I can retire and move to the mountain full time. So it's a chance I take almost every weekend but the serenity after getting there is will worth the risk.

 

I agree. A 4 inch lift kit and 35 inch tires make a big difference with the stray speed beef on our highways.

My CTD RamCharger has claimed a few in the 9 years its been on the road, but its had minimal damage thanks to how high it sits.

I doubt it would fair as well against an elk though.

 

Yea, those things are more like hitting a cow than a deer.

Just out of curiosity, about how fast were you going?

One of those dessert runner or rock crawler bumpers that project and lean out might help deflect the vehicle up and over but you'd have to hit head on. Not sure I'd want to go over one either though...

 

I don't live in the Smokey's. They reintroduced elk out there. The deer do enough damage as it is. I had a premonition about a deer strike. Saw one freshly whacked on the road. I came up on the woman who had just hit it. Helped her yank out her fender liner so she could make it home.

So tell me about the coolant wars!!! Can't be as bad as caliber wars on a gun forum................

A few years back there was a passionate "discussion" about straight vs diluted. As usual, things remained mostly civil but I don't think one side ever convinced the other either way. I think the solution was to let it go and agree to disagree. As sane adults should...

 

As a wounded veteran of those wars there is just one thing I want to say-the only thing corrosive in antifreeze is water 😎carry on…Mark I may have been part of the wars 🤔

 

I drained mine last year and put 100% back in after running some flush chemicals through it. I doubt I got all of the water out though. I wonder if it contributed to my very high temp readings coming through the desert. (Flame ON!)
