I called sonnax awhile back, inquiring about something that would improve the coolant temps a bit. Even though I'm not that bad, considering the 104 degree ambient temps we've had the last few weeks, I still don't like the fact that my atf gets up in temp too fast. Sonnax guy says it's my torque converter, and reccomended maybe the zip kit, to improve flow. Seems after the TC rebuild, my temps hit 180 within 20 minutes of in town traffic. Not sure on the cost of that zip kit yet.

In time, I'm going to swap out all my rubber hoses carrying that atf, to aeroquip fittings and stainless braided tubing, and possibly add a heat sink cooler.
I gotta stay away from that Sonnax site- that's a big toy store of goodies!!

Temp sensor is mounted on a tee fitting, that has an 1/8" npt that houses the temp sensor, exactly 12" AFTER it comes out of the transmission( that is the forward line, that has the factory OD shut off switch). What I'm thinking about doing, out of sheer boredom one day, is to mount one in the pan also, so I can see both readings after it's been cooled in pan, and after it's been run thru the transmission, as I have it now.

Ok.

Thats the temp coming out the converter, the line that has the 270f OD shutoff switch.

Your pan temps should be 35-50 degrees cooler, you’re within the lower side of operating temps.

Even 270f in a clutchless non lockup converter is no problem with a high quality fluid.

your tranny clutches/bands see about 10-20 hotter fluid than what the pan fluid reads.

Ofellas, so, my highest readings have been at 210 degrees with these 104 temps(107 here today!). So that means, based on your input, my pan temps are at best 160 degrees.
I'm thinking, once I convert over to better flowing PTFE stainless braided tubing, my temps should come down some more.

Thanks for the reply, and to the OP, I apologize from diverting. Its all transmission related, and seems lately there have been numerous posts on transmission maintenance. Thank you

I did think about that option... however, I don't own a torque wrench at the moment of any kind... so using a different setting or converting is not an option... I laid my thumb wide open the other day so I'm stitched up at the moment and can't do any of the projects I need to wrap up as summer ends and hunting season starts!!!

Ive saw a combo pack of torque wrenches for sale (in lbs and ft lbs) locally keeping my eye open for that deal while I heal up a little bit...

When you say do the bands by feel ... do yiu mean that you actually feel the adjustments tightening up and at WHAT POINT do you then back the bands off the appropriate turns??
There's a good sticky on adjusting the bands... but you need a torque wrench...

Don't make the same mistake I did one time...tighten the bands, but forget to back the nut off.....tranny won't move once you have everything back together......

You then have to pull everything apart again.......

I picked up an inch/lb torque wrench a year or two ago and have had to use it a bunch since I now have snowmobiles and quads....

Yea, it freaked me out. Did that to my front kickdown. Then I posted here and Bigragu politely pointed out my, um, mistake. What a relief, I thought I had really screwed something up!
