Pump problems.. won't start

I hope that ya'll don't mind my jumping in on this one.., but it's related..
I've installed a rebuilt FI pump on my 93 and it won't start.., I took it out and reinstalled and nothing.
I checked/ensured TDC and noticed that the index on my old pump when I took it out sat at about 5.75 o'clock, close to an index mark on the front of pump where the shaft is.., I repositioned the new pump to that.., and it still won't start.., it is getting fuel to the injectors.
How/where is the index pin supposed to be positioned?.., should it point to the the mark on the pump?.. is that where where #1 get's injected?
Do you know if there's anyone near Grafton/Yorktown, VA that could help me? I'll pay if they want...
Please respond to ferran@fernandorico.us
Thanks
Fernando

I took the pump out and rotated the jumped gear to where I remembered it was when I took the old one out.., I also looked at the index at the old pump and since I had taken it out with the engine at TDC, figured to put the new one with the index pointing at the same place..
I aslo bled ALL the injection lines, it sputtered and started.., then I rotated the pump around until it ran smooth...
I'm still gonna get it properly timed though..
Thanks for all the advice and the couple of phone calls offering help.., Ya'll are a swell bunch of guys..
Regards
