Anyone ever put a 2nd gen Radio in a 1st gen?

Dad bought a radio the other day for the new first gen he just bought. The electronics place(same place we got odometer gears from) sent a a radio out of a 94. I plugged it in and everything worked but it was like the speakers weren't hooked up at all. He called the place back and they said the 94 wiring was a little different. Anyone know what wires i need to switch around to make this work?

Yep, I've put 2nd gen radios in two of my trucks. The only time I had problem was when the radio came out of an Infinity equipped vehicle. A little rewiring and you can make them work, or so I'm told. I just used all the speakers out of the truck the radio came from. Other than that, just a normal Dodge CD player has worked for me, twice atleast.

What he said. The Infinity systems have the amps out at the speakers, so they don't work with the standard Chrysler wiring. Any Chrysler radio from 1985 on will mount up and plug in.

I thought the Chrysler radios were plug n play for our rides until around 2002. I contemplated getting one from a Jeep Grand Cherokee for awhile.

I've got an 04-

There is a factory adapter kit or the wiring. Of course, the cut-out shape is different.

They are, as long as they aren't Infinity equipped. Like Wanna said, they are amped at the speakers. There is even a special procedure to putting an aftermarket radio in a Infinity equipped vehicle.

I put a factory radio from a 96 infinity system in my old 84 Dodge Ramcharger worked perfectly, I'm thinking of doing the same into my 92.

I put a cd player from a 04 neon in mine. I went to the dealer and got the adapter plug and then carved out my guage surround due to the radio having a radius on the ends. Works great.
