anyone ever put a 3rd gen intercooler on a 1st gen
I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried this, as i was looking at my intercooler and comparing it to a newer one. I think it would be worthwhile to get more airflow, but would you only see more airflow with a bigger turbo? just wondering, thanks

G1625S put one on his. It is not trivial to do, in terms of modding the front end, fabbing parts, etc. The 7.3 Powerstroke intercoolers are a better fit, although they too require a little persuasion to get in there.

It will not really improve air flow but its will help cool your egts. I suppose the stock 93 could maybe be a bit restrictive but you wouldn't really say a bigger intercooler would create more air flow because intercoolers are sort restrictive by desgin in order to cool the air

If accompanied by larger intake ducting and a BHAF or similar filter mod, then yes absolutely, it will increase flow. Lower EGT would be an expected result under any circumstances, but "even" lower EGT would be expected with the larger ductwork.

Absolutely ace, I was mostly just refering to the intercooler it self. Mind you you have to take in to consideration that better air flow means lower boost just a reminder in case you thought puting a bigger intercooler on would increase boost

That is one thing I'm anxious to see when I get my PS IC in, hopefully in the next few days. I won't worry about losing a couple pounds of boost, since it is pushing around 26 lbs. max now. But I'm afraid the stock H1C just may not cut it anymore at some point after the new, freer flowing intake path is all there.

The front 6-8'' of the frame has to be cut off in order to fit a 3rd gen IC in there...all the way up to the front crossmember, basically. Then you've gotta fab new bumper brackets. The thing is huge and works well, but I would not cut up a nice truck to add one. My truck...not so nice
before...
during---it ends an inch or so above the bottom of the bumper
After...I've been able to bucher things up so it's a 50 footer again, instead of a 100 yarder
Oh, and everything under the hood is 3'', right up to the freightliner intake
