5th gear, 2800 rpm, defueling with 3200 spring

Since I replaced the head gasket on my truck, I have taken it real easy, Just running it a bit, and just put new tires on, Stuck in alot of traffic today, Getting a little bored, when traffic finally opened up, we were all moving nicely at about 80 mph, SSSSOOOOO i thought like seeing what the old girl has in her, Well i flipped on the H2O/meth, and slowly introduced the pedal to the floor, and she pulled Great till about 2800 rpm, and started to fall on her face, Figuring I started to defuel somewhere in the 2800 rpm range, I kept er there for about 30 sec, My speedo never reads over 65 or so, I dont know how fast i was traveling at 3K rpm, But it was really smooth!
Is it time to think I am starving the VE pump?
I still have the stock lift pump.
Does anyone else notice this defuel before 3200 rpm?
In 3rd or 4th I can pull real hard right to 3k, Just not as good in 5th,
I have the 354 rear
265/75/16s in the back, and a getrag.
Thanks for any imput about fuel, or speed at 3k in 5th.
Peter.

You were easily 105-110 at 3k. I am at 95 at on the floor at the stock 2600 rpms.

By backing out the high idle screw and some grinding on the linkage stop, mine would defuel around 3100 with the stock spring and rev out to 3600. With the 3200 spring (why is it called that?) it now defuels around 3600-3700 and can rev up to 4000-4100.

Time for a fuel pressure gauge.

Don't waste money on the piston pump, put on a Walbro. I resisted it for a long time (because I'm a luddite at heart ), but now I can't see settling for anything less.

Yes I did mean the piston pump. It was a long night at work. Thank's for pointing that out.

I will go and find a sutiable gauge, and install it in the cold soon. I think that my stock lift pump has reached it's limits. Will be interesting to see my fuel pressure.

pred; That is on a dyno in 5th which is around 122 mph @ 3600. I've had it to 115 or so on the road.
