This is something I need to do to my crew cab soon! Where did you get your replacement bushings? And how much?

A dealer can get them. I don't have the numbers anymore. Price was around $6. each. You need 4 each.

Those bushings are only listed in the frame section of the dealer computer. If they look in the front suspension section. It does not show them.

Sweet. Takes the guess work out of trying to figure out how to do that. Thank you for your service to 1st Gen owners everywhere.

In summary... hit it with a torch, make the center ferule for the inner and outer frame bushings pop out (which will be molten hot, land in your eye socket and burn a hole to your brain), then the inner and outer frame bushing halves can be knocked out with a hammer? ....sort of trying to line things up in my simple mind, step one, step two...

And the new bushings can either be tapped in with a hammer and socket, or tightened in with a carriage bolt and a socket.

Think I got it.

Inflation has affected your pricing


They sell for $ 13.20 at most dealerships. I tried buying them locally and the nasty woman behind the counter wanted $38 each!

You got it. Burning out the rubber really sped things along.


The bushing half outer shells are hit out with a long skinny punch from the other sides. Not as easy as it may sound, as they're really in there. It's easiest if you can get one out, then the other just pops out because you can be in direct line with the outer shell with your punch or drift. A air chisel may be best.

carriage bolt and a couple sockets 1 1/8" and a 1 3/8" sockets seemed to work best. The smaller of the two goes on the outer rim of the new bushing, and the other one is on the head side of the carriage bolt and rests against the outer frame. I just tapped in the outer ones, as it was easy to do.

Well the first thing to ask when you walk into a dealership parts section.

Ask if the person is on commision. If he is find another dealer.

List price was $8 when I bought mine. I walked out the door at $6. I have delt with this dealer for over a decade. I am one of the few 1st gener's that can call a dealer and order without being there in person. (If I think they can find the correct part without me leading them threw the computer). Plus I get a discount.

Good writeup I say sticky although I woulda grabbed a torque n fire extinguisher right away n torqued the f-ers out.

anyone have the part #'s for these bushings but for a 1/2" Bolt the 89-91's use????

I'm assuming these bushings are the 5/8 bolt ones like typical 92-93

Crossy, Pardon my ignorance, but I thought it was the spring eye bushings which are 5/8s on the 92-93 and that the frame bushings for all 4x4 dodge diesels from 89-93 were the same

Well hot dang I didn't know that. I figured the frame bushings were bigger too.
