tuning for fuel mileage

wanna tune it for fuel mileage, so far its all stock except for a hx35 with asa intake and 4" straight exhaust. ive heard that timing helps out, would i be better off with an 1/8 bump or the m&h timing spacer? i have the 366 spring but havent put it in yet too. im assuming leaving the stock fuel pin in would help too. any suggestions? thanks all!

It's not about tuning, it's about your right foot. With all the performance mods I've done to my 91, the mileage remains 18-21. Other than a timing bump and better atomizing injectors, there is nothing more you can do to the engine. And those 2 items will only improve your mileage slightly. You can do fuel substitutions to reduce $ per mile such as WMO, WVO, even water injection or propane as an alternative. You can't change how much fuel it takes to hold 1500RPM, you can control how much fuel it takes to get to 1500RPM and how long it takes to come to a stop. Acceleration and deceleration are your fuel wasters. Long periods of idle wastes fuel. Running gear drag (low tire pressure and thick oil) wastes fuel.

Both. They accomplish different things.

I'd have to disagree alittle on that part, My dads truck in his crew cab stock engine stock pump we was getting 20-21hwy mpg consistantly, I had his truck with me for a week and put the 3200 spring in and turned up the pump 1.5 turns and tightend the afc 2 turns (the torqs on top) and rotated the pin to the deepest setting, We are now getting 23-24 consistantly on the highway I could probably clean the smoke up alittle more and we'd get better, More power to an extent the more effeciant (sp?) you will get up to speed and maintain speed.......

I've never messed with my pump, but it's got an M2 pin and the spacer. Exatly HOW do I turn it up one a half turns and tighten the AFC two turns? I have to make anumber of 1500 mile trips and I could USE an extra mile or two per gallon!

Remember to inflate your tires to the max written on the side wall. Clean air and fuel filters help too.
