48RE trans
can anyone tell me if the dodge 48RE trans used in the 03-07 dodge diesel truck will bolt up to my stock 1992 trans case? the truck is a 1992 auto diesel truck, i understand an adapter is needed to bolt to the 1992 engine?

You could bolt it up.. the issue is the computer.. it needs to know how fast the vehicle is going and also needs to know loads such as RPM range. Goodluck with that part.

I assume you would need the engine adapter, lock up converter and starter from the truck that the transmission is from.
The biggest issue with the 48RE is you need a stand alone computer controller to run the transmission, and from what little I know about it they are not a cheap unit...couple thousand if memory serves.

Im no transmission expert but I threw a built 47rh in mine and ran a compushift mini only because it was supposed to be easier to install than a RE trans. I dont tow with my 1st gen. May talk to a trans builder on what they recommend on a swap like that.
I know firepunk anteater can control 47RE's and 48RE's but its $1k-1500 just for the controller.
When you go to install check out how I did the starter because it wont fit properly with new adapter plate in the stock holes.
How much you towing?

If more superior means more complicated and expensive to get to even shift in a 1st gen, Then yes it is far superior.
Otherwise I would install the 47 RH, use the Computer shift like Devyn and I use to get it to work, and enjoy a superior transmission to what you have in your 1st gen ... along with better MPG since you will gain lock up.
