Yes ! 255/85 is taller and skinnier and you may be able to find a tread that is smooth adn won't bog you down, especially for drag racing... forget the knobby tires! my 245/70R19.5 tires are 33.6" ...tall and skinny.

The formula for figuring out the height of a tire is simple. Width X Side wall ratio (ie. 70 or 75 or 80 series sidewall) X 2 (top and bottom sidewall/tire) + the size of the rim. So for example a tire such as a 235/85/16 would be:

235mm X .85 X 2 + 16inches = 31.98inches

The tire width is in millimeters (235mm) so we have to convert that to inches which is simply divide by 10 (convert to centimeters) then divide by 2.5.(to get inches)

so again a 255/85/16 would be:

255mm = 10.2" so 10.2 X .85 X 2 + 16 = 33.34inches

Also remember i dont care about width. im looking for a taller tire than a 235-85... SO I CAN GET MORE TOP SPEED IN THE 1/4 MILE. thats why i want taller tires. but race is at e-town on sunday and im like out of time to get taller tires. the 33's i have here are too wide. they will slow me down. and there like groundhawg tread. that will REALLY slow me down.
