1992 W250 Tailgate finish panel
Hey...
I am looking for the red plastic piece that goes across the back of my tailgate on my 1992 W250
The finish panel is perfect, but the red plastic piece is gone. My Dad peeled it off when it started going bad
Does anyone sell this stuff?
Thanks

I have the same problem with mine, I am going to talk to a sign shop and see it they can get something that is similar. They do tonnes of safety stuff . I was thinkin of the stuff from stop signs not sure if they can just get the red or not
I just don't remember
I guess I could spray some candy red and add some flake??
The panel across the tailgate is called a Tailgate Appliqué and cost $700.00 from the dealer if they still had one.
I am looking for one in perfect or near perfect condition for my truck.
Again, try a custom sign shop or maybe check the 3M website.

Mine seems to be slightly reflective when the light hits it but I think it might have lost some of it's reflectivity from all of the years of California smog and washing but it defiantly doesn't light up like I wish it would
I would try and use something like this to make the stripe really reflective.

Also there is the reflective dust that the road department uses to make the lines in the road reflective, you might be able to mix it in the paint and spray it on the strip.

I have a friend who worked for 3M many years and kept me supplied with reflective tape and such. About 2 years ago they were told anyone caught with it in their big lunchbox gets the boot. Plus they had to peel all the reflective tape off their lunchboxes, hardhats, ect. 3M got tough on it for some reason. I looked thru my collection and I have some within a 1'' of being wide enough for mine. I may split some and do mine-$700 skins-yep i'll piece some together.
On both my LE's the red was peeling off.
I pulled it the rest of the way off then tried to clean the metal underneath.
That proved fruitless.
Upon closer inspection I noticed it was aluminum that was stuck to the big stainless piece.
It was a bear to get the aluminum off but once I did it basically gave me a completly s/s tailgate badge.
I'm not really a fan of the red strip once it starts to peel but that my opinion.
I'm trying to dicker on a clean LE tailgate right now and if it comes through the fist thing I'm doing is tearing off the red applique with the aluminum backing to get down to the stainless and then polish it.
