When you say it “plateaus”....do you mean the rpm’s hang or it just stays at the same level ?

yeah it's like the pedal is all the way down and the RPMs will not go any higher almost like it's governed

Did this all of a sudden just start happening? Is the pedal sticking at all? What if you manually move inj pump lever by hand in N or P...does it rev up all the way? Have you checked your fuel pressure?

Or are you just revving it too high and it IS on the factory "rev limiter". They will de-fuel at a certain RPM as you say it doesn't do it in 5th gear...

yes that's exactly what it's doing like it just stops accelerating at a certain RPM and then I have to shift gears and it will do it again at a certain RPM I'm not sure what the RPMs but yesterday's high but no it doesn't do it in 5th gear I can continue to go but .

no it's always done it and it only seems to do it when I'm driving in gear it just gets to a certain RPM and stops it won't go any higher until I shift

Have you driven another Cumins truck to compare it too?
You might just not be use to the low RPMs these run and standing on the skinny pedal till it de-fuels in all the gears but 5th where you never get that fast / high in the RPM band.

From what I read it just sounds like the truck isn't fueling because they are rev limited, and they don't rev high. Low rpm and great torque at the ready that's how they were designed.

I would put a boost and pyro gauge on it first before modding the motor much.
Once those are on I would also add the 3200 spring to let her rev a little more which seem to be you biggest concern.

Pyro is short for Pyrometer. It measures the exhaust temperature so you know how hot valves and what not are getting. In stock configuration these motors really couldn't hurt themselves within reason but once someone messes with fuel and timing you want to keep a eye on the pyro.
