what pump does a 97 auto have?
The way I took it, and I asked a few times to verify, is that the injectors are the only thing keeping me from 215hp like the manuals. I guess the next question is who has a 180 pump and how much hp are they pushing as compared to a manual.

Helix, plungers, cam--stuff like that. You can take a little pump and get FLOW out of it, but it won't ever flow like a 215.
I just swapped out my 160 for a 215 and they are light years different. Top to bottom--in the middle, all-the-way different. Same plate (slid way BACK), same inj/turbo/timing/DV's. UNREAL different.

I Am pretty sure the pumps are fairly close to the same. I asked Don M to decipher some pump numbers for me. Here is his reply...
Its a 131 KW or 180 HP pump from an automatic truck. Year 96,97, or 98.
It has the same delivery valves as the 215 pump. The 181's.
The same camshaft. Another plus. The same DV holders. Another plus. The same housing, so it will fit any Dodge.
It is basically a 215 pump with different plungers.
It will deliver about 170 CC's of fuel per 1000 strokes in stock form. Or much more if it is tweaked
A good find, all in all!

The differences in the P&B assembly are very significant. It is the reason the 215's are the "preferred" pump and also why they have the ability to flow the most fuel . You simply cannot get the fuel out of a 180 that you can a 215.
I have heard from reputable sources that the cams are the same and other reputable sources that the cams are different. The ones that point out that the cams are different said the difference in fill rate is minimal. I have not persoanlly taken the two pumps apart to verify this information nor do I think I ever will

One of the most thorough engineers in the "reverse engineering" and MOPOWER development realm of 12v trucks has been my advisor, mentor, parts supplier for a few years now...
Long story short, he finds the 215 superior to *any* other pump.
A crazy fuel blowing momma can be *made* out of the rest, but it's a lot nicer product and easier to start with a 215.
I lived with a 160 for 35,000 miles. Didn't understand my suffering fully until the 215 went in.
My VP truck was always faster/more fun than the 12v UNTIL the 215.
But nevermind me, yall go ahead and play with your little pumps.
