How can I identify which pump I have?

 

If it hasn't been changed...A 180 pump.There is a tag in front of the pump...I think it's the CPL number...

 

Tag under the throttle linkage bracket is the one you want. 10 digit number, 0 402 736 XXX. Last three digits should be either 885 or 911, likely the former.

 

Which pumps are good and which are bad?

 

In what context? A pump that works is a good pump. If you're talking about mild level, easy to get hp, DIY mods, a 215 pump is hard to beat. 600-800 hp, any of the dodge 12mm pumps will work after a pump shop maxes it out. Above that, the 180 seems to be the best with the asymmetrical cam and flat top plungers. But at that point, a 13mm would be preferred with its higher injection rates.

 

In the context of heavy towing and maximum reliability and fuel economy. I'm beginning to get the drift that a timing bump to 16 may be all I will want to do while running the stock auto tranny. Haven't measured my exhaust yet - may already be 4".

 

They are all about the same, in that regard.
