Exclamation Strange noise on startup today - whats up?

Hey guys, been busy - but I hope I dont have a problem.

I started my truck - and with my foot on the clutch, it made some kind of noise like almost if a winch was maxing out.

But I jumped out of the truck and listened underneath - sounded like it came from ther bellhousing.

Almost like a slight rattle, very noticeable.

cleared up after maybe a minute and cant recreate the noise - runs fine, tried starting it 12 times and hasnt happened again.

Bill, tell me whats up man :P

Pilot bearing or starter hanging up?
Next time it happens see if it keeps running after you turn it off.

No, I shut it off and no issue.

Possibly the starter.

Pilot bearing was just changed with my clutch purchase.

Would the starter eventually free up like that?

That actually sounds like its what happened.

What does that mean?

Contacts going bad?

More like the starter gear isn't releasing from the ring gear.

My automatic does the same thing some times, very far and few though. First time I ever heard it happened to be when my wife started it for me... I blamed her till it did it for me too.
