shelled another Getrag

I went for a drive to pick up my drag car from the shop (90 miles away), and as I got off the Highway it was much more difficult to get it into gear. I loaded the car and drove back, it was quieter in 5th than 4th so got home and checked the fluid, boy is it shinny!. I know for certain the input bering is toast as are the other berings from running metal in them.

That brings me to part 2. I can rebuild it for around 500.00 if none of the hard parts are gone or do a swap. Does anyone have pricing on a NV4500 or 5600 if possible? This is in a 93 W350 (4x4).

I'll bet your as excited as I am that Dodge is scrapping the 4500 and 5600 and going back to Getrag. My guess is that warranty claims were too low on the 4500 and 5600's. So now Dodge service depts across the country will have plenty of work.

You have over 1 million miles on your truck? How many did you have on your Getrag? If ANY tranny lasts 1 million miles, it has my money. Of course, you did say "another" Getrag, soo..

How many miles did you have on this one?

I quit counting the number of trannys. Then again towing in high gear with GVWs at 24-28K will do that. At one point I have a shop in OKC called Blumenthals install a rebuild, I shelled high gear within 600 miles empty, I went through 8 trannys in 4 months with them. They finally bought Getrag parts and walla no more problems for 100+K miles.

I hooked up a tranny cooler to the trans which really heldped the life of it. Without the cooler it would easily run 280+ in high gear loaded, with the cooler it ran 140-180 loaded.

Where did you hear the Getrag was going back in the Dodge. I figured since New Venture was partially owned by Mopar, there would be no way they'd ever go back.

I swapped it at 980K. I was a moron and galled a piston, other than a slight tick and a little oil ussage it still ran fine. But I had a friend at Cummins that got me a surplus motor new for 2400.00 including pump, turbo and shipping. I couldnt refuse. The motor also had over 9000 hours of idleing at night to keep the heat or AC going. I felt like it pulled it own weight.
