Question about clutch
Question about clutch
Greetings
I just joined this forum this month so this is my first post. I have a question about the clutch in my truck. I have a 98 12valve with 5speed trans. I had some mods done last Feb. and am curious if my clutch is starting to go.
I have always noticed that in 2nd and 3rd gear that the tach and the speedometer are out of sync. What I mean is in 2nd and 3rd when I accelerate the rpms are there but the speed doesn't seem to equal the power that I would expect with 3000 rpms and about 35 to 40 lbs of boost.
However when I am in 4th or 5th gear and accelerate from around 1500 rpms you better hold on. It can get scary. I am able to get 40 lbs of boost and 3100 rpms and still have not been at wot. I don't get the feeling that the clutch is slipping but I can really get on it hard when taking off from a standing start and not break the rear wheels loose. But at 40 to 45 mph on damp roads I have to be careful to not accelerate to quickly so the rear end stays straight.
I have a 4.10 rear end and 4wd. I really would like to get more low end speed and am not sure how to do it. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Oh yeah, sorry I am so long winded but I really like to go fast and I get carried away talking about these trucks

Thanks for the replies. I guess now I have to figure a way to get the turbo involved in the action earlier. I can make plenty of smoke so maybe some more air is what I need. I am still not at all sure how these things generate the power. It seems to me that the more I read the more confused I get. Iam still working on it though. Thanks again. I be back for more.
