Pump problems

Hey yall, I have a question regarding a '95 CTD
Had the truck completely rewired due to a fire and now, what I think is the lift pump, (under hood, arm and diaphgram configuration)will not come on, engage, when the ignition is turned on; however if you run a jumper to it from the battery it works fine, checked and rechecked all wires, heres the deal, if I run a jumper to the cab with a switch and have in-line fuses to turn the pump on will it cause any problems? I know electronically it works great, but i figure it will throw codes due to the ECM not controlling it and assuming something is not right Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post

That the fuel shutoff solenoid? if so theres a relay in front of it that might be bad. someone will probably post who knows more than me on that.
Dont think it will hurt anything to jump it but you can also check to see if that relay that drives it gets a signal and if not where its not getting through.

The lift pump on a '95 is mechanical.
I'm thinking you're jumping power to the fuel heater.

Sounds like you are talking about the fuel shut off soleniod on the side of the inj pump. Look for an blue fusible link wire that goes to the pos+ side of your drivers side battery ... if this was rewired due to fire this may have been over looked and not done. This wire provides the power to operate the solenoid ...

eidt .... the PCM does not control the fuel shut down solenoid ... and won't throw any codes .... 95 is pre OBDII ... hope this helps .. and be careful running switched to the coil ... there are two coils in that little thing ... one is a pull coil and one is a hold coil .... if you power up the pull side and leave it on for long it will cook the solenoid.

Check for power at the big relay on towards the back of the engine on the drivers side attached to the cowl .. there are two of them a little one (fuel heater reealy) and a big one (shut down solenoid relay) if there is no pwer to the big relay the coil won't pull and the engine won't start .....

Was the engine harness rewired or did you put a new or salvage yard harness on?

actually the dealer did all the work and they say if it is not working now it was not working before, prove it. His proof was, "Well, that morning I put the key in, and it started, drove to the cafe and it started smokin, put fire out and towed it here."

I second the idea of looking for that blue wire. I had another guy mention this to me when we were talking about common problems on these trucks. Check for bad contact from that to the relay and solenoid.
