oil pressure guage for fuel pressure?

I am using an electric oil pressure gauge to moniter fuel pressure. It goes up to 100 PSI. After looking at some of the places that sells gauges, i noticed the fuel type was significantly more expensive then the oil type. What do yall think about that?

A gauge is a gauge, it doesn't matter what material it's measuring.
I haven't have luck with electric FP gauges on diesels though, the senders don't last long and lie to you so well that you get a false sense of security.

Lie to you? I take that to mean false readings. I have a needle valve on it just barely cracked open. I hope the gauge will last for a little while. I put in a new overflow valve today and the fuel pressure is right about at 35lbs or so. It's halfway between 25 and 50lbs. Well see how long this gauge will last. Im hoping the truck will start easier now when its cold.

Lie to you?
I installed six electric FP gauges in different trucks before I learned better. Of the six five of them started reading only zero and the max pressure with no inbetween. The other one just totally quit.
All had needle valve snubbers.

Thats not good news. At least you KNEW they were bad. I've been kinda wondering what the signs are. Sounds like it either works or it doesn't. I will definetly go mechanical if this one goes south.

I installed my water pressure gauge for my fuel pressure tonight. It is reading 30 PSI at idle. I am going to get an Oil Pressure gauge tomorrow that is 0-100 PSI. The Water pressure gauge is 0-35 PSI. Does this pressure sound high? When I rev it it pegs out and starts to overlap. I am pretty sure I set it all up right. I put a new overflow valve on not too long ago, could it be bad?

Sounds just a bit high. Usually I see about 22 psi at idle and no more than 35 psi under throttle, which is perfect according to spec. I stretched the spring on my OF valve and I was seeing 40-45 psi but my lift pump starting ticking so I backed down to no more than 35 psi.

I'm going to get another gauge and see if it reads different. Just want to make sure I'm not going to screw something up with too high of a fuel pressure. I'm just glad my lift pump is performing properly. I guess my problem is my timing, I'll get on that next.

Yes they will all read the press fine the only diff is what they are made of because fuel is a solvent and can brake down the material in a mechanical gauge or in a sending unit. It may never happen but that's the diff.
