Lightbulb 12 Valve fuel pressure guage, Should I?

Doing gauges on my 95 12v 5 sp. Im going with pyro+boost for now. Should I bother with a fuel pressure guage? From everything I understand, The p pump is bullet proof, so was just wondering. Thanks.

Alot of people like to have them just to monitor how things are going, but as you said yourself they are not really needed with these pumps, unless you are runing alot of power and think you might be starving the pump. But then again I would not mind having one, but it just seems not needed right now.

ITs not needed

due to reasons that the lift pump is not a constant failure on 12V trucks, or as common as it is on 24V rides..however i still do consider it, just probly not right now.. The way i see it, if i have smoke, im not starving my pump...

Tx

Dshiftff, what kind of mods do you have, you could spend the money on something like a fuel plate or some 3k gsk, just a thought.

Thanks for the fast replies. I know they are essential for the overvalved, but dont hear much mention of them here. I could probably hold off then. I plan on keeping it under 400 Hp for now.

12vordie, Currently Im running a #6 plate,BHAF and a 4" turbo back, catless. I got it used a week ago, it had the tst power kit. It had 2 used springs in the box with the stock parts, one about 1 1/2" one about an inch. are these 3 gsk springs? it does go to 3K so I was wondering. I assume the prev. owner replaced the ones in the box with new ones.

Those are not gov. springs, those are afc springs the short stiff one is the stock spring the other is one that comes in the afc spring kit "it comes with two of different stiffnesses". If your truck runs to 3 grand then it has the stock gov. springs, if they were the 3k gsk then it would run up about 3500 rpm give or take a 100 or so rpm.

I disagree I think that you should go ahead an install a FP gauge. I have replaced a lift pump twice stupidly on 2 different 12 Valves trying to troubleshoot a problem. That is $300 down the drain that I could have used else where for a $50 gauge, $10 or less for a snubber, and misc pieces I have already.

I will be getting one on my current 97 very shortly, especially since a friend of mine might have very well saved his pump with his this past weekend.

TurboDiesel over on TDR drove from Virginia to Texas this weekend moving back home. He got almost all the way home before all of a sudden he started smelling diesel fuel. A quick glance at the FP gauge and it read ZERO!

He pulled over on the side of the road and found a blown fuel return line!

I will definately be installing a FP gauge soon!

I run a FP gauge in both my 12s and have installed dozens more.
It's a cheap gauge that can keep you from walking, ok in my book.

OK> just so I got this straight. The short spring is the stock. the longer one is aftermarket, along with one that is already in the pump. What are the differences between the 2? AFC has something to do with fuel control from what I have read? So much to learn on the new to me 12V. Thanks. DshiftFF

They are softer springs than the stock. they are two different stifnesseseseses oops they allow more fuel at lower rpm, I think?
