Lift Pump?

Hello. Lately I have been noticing a lack of power above 55mph with a load (15k lbs). This morning fired truck up, no starting issues and drove it to town. Got back in it to leave from store and it wouldn't fire. Checked fuel filter. Cracked open no. 1 injector at pump, nothing while cranking. Checked line from filter to injector pump while cranking. Nothing. Would this be the lift pump and do they just fail all at once like this.

Thanks in advance

I had an immediate failure on one of mine when the plunger spring inside it broke (not the priming plunger). It did have over 250k miles on when it failed.

here is part of a post i made on another site
about lift pump, then why i decided to get gauges.

have had the truck for a year. mostly farm truck , have made a few long distance trips (over 200 miles)

had we been monitoring the fuel system, we could have known a problem was developing

with out the gauges, it was a guess...

last month the truck started getting sluggish
thought it might be the fuel filter ( less than 2400 miles)

changed it/ no help
2 days later ran even worse, barely run

change the lift pump, used from another running engine

all seemed good, got the power back

decided to buy auto meter gauges...
pyro, boost and fuel

got every thing installed, what,,,,, 4psi fuel pressure.....
thought it was to be 5-7 psi

got a new lift pump from rock auto>>>> strong 7 psi...

pyro- i see why lugging the engine is bad... temps climb quick

Check your prefilter strainer in the bowl before the lift pump. If it is clogged, the pump can't do it's job.

You did make sure your fuel control lever was all the way up? That is the usual culprit. Run the lever manually up and down, then try starting, if she doesn't start, leave the key on, pop hood, and see if the lever is in the up position.

I switched over to a manual cable setup to open and close the fuel valve. I got fed up with the electrical issues and hang ups with the old solenoid system. I've had the manual setup now for some time. I am happy with the manual operation. There are posts on this type of conversion.

As I was reading this thread I was waiting for someone to say that!
And then I was waiting for infidel to post:

I changed the lift pump. Removed the preheater assembly. Got it running after bleeding air out. Drove it 5 miles, shut it off, restarted it, stopped it, then tried again and it won't start. It must be getting air in h system. Any ideas?

Have you checked the fuel shut-off lever/solenoid as pointed out earlier? What is your fuel pressure?

IF the fuel lines aren't leaking somewhere (top of tank, or near motor where they change to rubber most common) then you might want to drop the tank and make sure the screen in there is good. Mine was clogged solid at 225k miles.

Just read your post again... did it not start after sitting a while or was it sitting a short time?
