I received a 37" LCD 720 60H panasonic viera as payment for working with my brother over Christmas break. He installs hi end home audio and video systems in houses, offices and such. The system we installed was over 150K in a house. it was just a pre wire in new construction but I was amazing. I don't think many people know what goes on in there walls to support these kinds of systems.

My brother is great to deal with if anyone has questions about the subject..

I went with a Samsung 50" Plasma from Best Buy, it's was on sale with a surround sound system. It's only 720 not 1080 but I don't think at home you can tell much difference.

3D in TV's is the next big thing so make sure you get one that can handle 3D, so I'm told.
I hear we should be able to watch ESPN in 3D by July 2010

I have a 52" Sony Bravia XBR4 and it is awesome but very expensive. I got the sony cause of the high ratings and ease of repair if needed. I had a 46" Samsung DLP that lasted 2 weeks past the warranty. It has been sitting at the repair shop now for two years still waiting for the light engine. I just installed a 46" sharp LED tv in a motorhome for a customer of mine and it is bad a$$ It is only 1.25 inches deep. That is the next tv I will get for me. Plasma that I have been around ( mostly in high line Rvs) last a max of 5 years before a critical failure. LCD's last on average twice as long and are cheaper to repair. I guess the real thing to remember is to get the warranty and renew it when it comes due.

Just a quick update since my New Years weekend mess.....

Truck is running awesome with the new valve springs and Flux 1.8s! Smooth as silk. EGTs are a little higher. It's NOT making oil now! Running Smarty on level 3 (MP8 on zero percent) it feels almost as strong on the "seat of the pants meter"........as it did before on level 9 with stock injectors and MP8 on 100 percent. At first it seemed to smoke more...but not now. I can certainly black out an intersection if I try but it is very controllable. Im not sure why it smoked more at first and not so much now. Fuel mileage seems almost exact as before....around 16 hand calculated local driving. My overhead is more realistic....only reading about 19 instead of 24 like before.

Don hooked up his laptop with some special diagnostic program to my ODB port and ran some checks/tests. They all checked perfect. He also commented how quiet and smooth it sounded. My confidence level in my truck is high again now.

I will prob change my oil again and send in a sample to Blackstone soon.

Im way past due for a turbo upgrade! Just waiting for the $$.

I also just changed out my tail lights to these.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03...Q5fAccessories

I loved the LED lights that were in it......when they were turned on. But the ext. cover just looked gray and faded or something. These new ones are not LED but seem to look alot better.......to me.

bnold, sorry to change the subject, but my computer won't let me send you a private message.
On one of the threads you said you built an Electronic High Idle Box that you flipped a switch to turn it on, and then could adjust from 800-2000 RPM's with a ****. The build was like $30.
Do you have the thread link for the Electronic High Idle Box you built? Or do you have instructions/pictures on how to do it?

Crank it up and see what happens.. . did you have to get all new bodies or were some salvageable?

also, My Dtech 62 seems to be holding up just fine for my current needs.

IM trying to not be to hard on it until I get a report back from Blackstone on my current oil. IM doing a 1000 mile run on this oil to see what things are looking like internally.

Mine has a whole new set of cores....turned into flux 1.8s. Don hasn't given me a report yet on my stockers....which are now another set of cores. Im looking forward to hearing about them....but im sure I have at least one cracked injector body.

Turbo is next up for me too. Prob gonna be a HTT 62/65/13ss as a single with potential for it being a secondary for twins.

I was trying to read reviews, but that's almost a hopeless endeavor since one says it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and the next guy says it's just a piece.

I'd like a 240, but if it's one of those things that won't be noticeable when you get home, then I'd rather save the extra cash for something else.

Now it looks like I need to upgrade the audio system as well since all my gear is from the days before HDMI.

For what its worth....i just got a 47" LG 47LH90 LED right after Christmas......I am VERY impressed with the color on this set. Its 240hz (Come to find out its a 120hz with some "trickery"...flashing black light)...but from what im told...unless you go with a high end Sony or Samsung, you will not really notice any difference between the 120 to 240. LG makes a great set and im very happy with this gem i found. I got it as a floor model and saved like 800.00 off retail.....Its not super thin....but i didnt need that......

Here are the specs if you want to check it out:

C-Net Review

LG's site

More or less right now you are going to pay for THIN, LED, WIRELESS (LG's Newest) and 240 Hz.......If you want to give up thin and the 240 Hz...that should save you anywhere from 500-1200......as the thicker units are pretty much the same and half a year old. LG, Sony, and Samsung seem to have the better sets out there for LED/LCD from my reading. LG has the best color adjustment menu and for the price can keep up with the $$$ sets on color performance. Sony/Samsung has better 240hz processors. Look at contrast ratios as well....that was a big sell for me along with the back-lit LED....my LCD had 2,000,000:1 ratio.....was on par with some plasmas i was looking at. Most LCD's had about 50,000:1.....the newer ones have 3,000,000:1 to 5,000,000:1....but expect to pay......

Now....i do notice SOME motion blurring and color blooming (Color bleeding into blacks...mostly if you have an interview with someone with a black background....like on the Baker Boys series on HD-Net....great show!!!) on my set at times. At 240 its still not going to be perfect...but this is my first LCD TV ever...so i cant tell you what a 60 or 120 hz looks like...im assuming worse. BUT man....i recorded a IMAX Show on the Alps.....and it was freaking sweet the picture quality! I cant wait until i get a Blueray to see the Full 1080p 24...........

I was perfectly happy with my Sony, rear projection lamp, 780 HD, 55" TV (same one 'Big Blues' has in their theater room) ....... till two things happened.
1- You started asking questions that sounded like greek to me, and I started researching the lattest technology.
2- My next door neighbor said "come here - you got to see this".
Showed me his new 70", LCD, 1080 HD, 120 blah, blah, blah! He paid less than I paid in 2005 for my Sony.
Very big difference in picture quality from mine.

Guess the time is close to when I donate my TV to the church (again) so I can keep up with the Jones (and the Mersiovsky's!)

Well, the Best Buy sale got me yesterday. Picked up a 52" Samsung LCD 1080p 240Hz plus a Bluray player as part of a package deal. On the high end of what I wanted to spend, but the deal was good and the reviews I found were good. I did pick up the extra warranty since all brands seem to have the bad stories of "it died just after the 1 year warranty".

It should be here tomorrow so I can give a report on it. Now I just have to get everything rearranged tonight to make room for it. Bye bye 27".

I was talking with one of the guys at Best Buy while we were doing the paperwork and he said another guy had come in to buy a TV over the weekend (without his wife's blessing). Apparently he made it home, got it all set up and when his wife walked in, she wouldn't stop screaming until he boxed it all back up and brought it back to the store. He said they don't get many returns like that, just plenty of husbands who live with angry wives. I didn't have to worry about it. I had a mandate to buy a big TV after she tried to watch a recorded episode of "Hoarders" the other night and ended up playing an episode of "Heroes" because she couldn't read the text on the small screen.

How thick? How heavy?
What I'm wondering is... mountable on a wall without serious reinforcement?

Overall size is 33.6" x 49.4" and 3.2" thick. Total weight of 56.4 lbs without the stand.

It should be pretty easy to mount to the wall with all the mounts they have available these days. I'm going to have it sitting on the TV stand between two 6' bookcases that make up our entertainment center, so I didn't have to worry about wall mounting.

Those are good sets. Did you get a home theater system? If you didn't.....you will. Ha!
