DTR #8 November and December 2009 Thread
You may be completely right. Im just parrotting what i've heard from others about Armor All. I haven't used it on my truck because I didn't need it with the dash mat. I use the dash mat not just to protect the dash, but the stereo and other electronics from getting to hot. I try to crack my windows too, to keep the heat from building up in the cab.
See ya tomorrow late morning/noonish!!
..
Well the meet was small but productive!
Tyler didn't make it. Neither did Max.
IIRC, it was just Me and Jared, RJ, Brian, Jason, Austin stopped in for a minute while at work, and a new guy...Hunter. Also Jason's dad was there and Brian's stepfather David.
Jason got a new clutch installed. RJ got a new cross-over steering unit. Brian got a new fuel filter on his FASS pump that gave him all the power back he had been missing all year. I got new brake pads and brake fluid. Thanks a million Brian and RJ for all of your help!
On my truck, I had new rotors for the front ready to go on, but they were not needed. All 4 rotors looked smooth as glass and had minimal wear. New pads went on so hopefully it will make it another 126K miles before that job is revisited....(except im going to start replacing the brake fluid on some sort of a schedule). Even the old pads looked only about half worn except for front driver side.
Amy made a great lunch. We got to shoot a bunch of clay skeet with 12 gauge shotguns! We shot several other pistols and rifles. Jared enjoyed that alot. And of course we had to have a big bonfire. Very nice.
Had a great time........hope we can have another event in Fairfield. Thanks again Brian and RJ on the brakes......they work great.

""Happy word" these "Happy word""Happy Word""Happy Word" injection lines! Had to put em on one at a time and bend em and now the "Happy Word" grid heater won't "Happy Word" clear em!"

Nope. They looked like new. Smooth, no ridges. The slightest groove on the outside edge. They probably could have gone another 50K+ miles, but since we were there....we changed the pads. Brian and RJ agreed, no need to turn or replace rotors at this time.
..
Your truck i guess....its a huge brake faux pas to not turn the rotors if they are not needing replacing. They might have looked stright and true, but at a smaller level they weren't. Your pads need to "ware in" to the rotor initally. A machined surface that is "glass smooth" is not ideal for this. It will work but more than likely you may have noise and life issues out of your pads over time. Just my training from an old school mechanic coming out......if you do brakes, you turn or replace the rotors.....no exceptions.
I don't know about a specific issue but he bgt those oversized lines against everyones recommendation. They have never been enjoyed (on the street) by anyone that has bgt them....I believe.
Was a great (but small group) weekend.
I can report the Thuren Cross-Over Streering is fairly amazing. It got rid of all my front end looseness... and the +/- 1" play in my steering wheel. Also eliminated the very slight left pull I have on Interstates....... and local rough or washboard roads that I am very use to, are now nothing. I now have a new truck feel to the front end!
I had mixed feelings (due to price) that this would help much. I can now say, "worth every penny"!
My drag bar and tie rod were apparently shot at 180,000 miles.

I guess it's done now. It's the price I pay for being ignorant. I'll hope for the best and if there is an issue it will have to be taken care of. Gotta have brakes!

Steering....or 3rd gen brakes..... or....
There is a law of physics about buying new parts..... If you don't install them, they don't, as a rule, do much to improve things!
(re: 3rd gen track bar sitting in your garage over a year.)
Hey, get all moved in?
