Thanks for the info.

Any idea how much fluid I should get? I certainly don't want to under-buy. And is there anything else I need to buy...other than the Dot 3 fluid and pads?

Brian...any idea about turning my rotors? Is that something we can do at your shop? or is there an auto parts place, open on Sat., nearby?

...
I would just go with standard DOT 3 stuff....as i would doubt you would notice much of a difference with the high end junk that more or less is just more resistant to heat...and from the sound of it...you never ever ever use your brakes! HINT: To keep the reservoir full, fill it up to the top and just turn the whole bottle of DOT 3 brake fluid upside-down on the reservoir. This will double or triple your fluid capacity (Depending on how big of a bottle you get) and make sure you don’t air lock anything…mainly your master cylinder. When your done, quickly pull the bottle off and cap. You might spill a small amt so have a rag under...and flush with water.

I would look into getting rotors as finding places that will turn them (AND do a good job at that!) is getting harder to find. Plus rotors are getting cheaper as well and come with lifetime wntys (As are pads now???). Meaning if they ever warp or need turning they will replace them for free. (Check NAPA) Most O'Reilly Auto Parts have a rotor lathe.....but i dont trust most of the kids they have running the place to turn them for me....the one in Gainesville let me turn my own stuff....i just need to get a lathe some day.....actually quite fun to use. Plus if your rotors really do have 125,000 miles on them....they might be getting on the thin side of good...or have one heck of a shoulder that needs to be taken off at the edge. Or some pretty deep “record groves” that are hard to cut out.

2 Qts may do it. I'd buy three. Brake fluid isn't that high cost!
Agree with Dan....
New Rotors makes sense after 150,000+ miles.

Rowland, you haven't seen them? There are a few running around Stephenville.

Think what they meant to say it's a direct injected gasser. It's the new 3.6L V6.

Maybe...But they had an animated diagram of the process!
Showed compressing air on upstroke prior to injecting gas. Same thing your talking about?
Sure looked just like a diesel type system. No mention of spark plug??
They did not call a compression engine... I did.

Wow...I leave for a few days and suddenly I'm way behind.

Looks like I'm out for a December meet. I've got a project at work finishing the weekend of 12/12 and will hopefully be working at our new house the weekend of 12/19 to get our storage container unloaded. We're closing on 12/17 and will hopefully have painters starting that afternoon. So until they finish, I'll be unloading and sorting everything from the container into the garage.

On an unrelated note, does anyone have a USB 3.5" floppy disk drive? Not something in real high demand and I didn't want to have to buy one if someone had one I could borrow to try and pull some data off some old disks I have here.

C'mon guys, don't let me be the thread-slayer. 12 hours and no posts? It's a new work/school week...let's get up and going. LOL

New question, what's the preferred model of GPS right now? Looking for something small and portable, but easy to use with as much screen as possible. The wife will be the primary user as I still have plenty of other tech at my fingertips. I see that Best Buy is running a bunch of offers on Garmin Nuvi models. Was going to pick through the features and see what was and wasn't needed. Just wanted to see if there were other directions I should be looking as well.

You've been out of reach for a while. I know.... but seems like all of DTR has been pretty quiet!
DTR#8 certainly has been! Not sure why?
Guess maybe it's hard to soar like an Eagle (enjoy play time with our trucks) when we are all surrounded by Vultures (Washington politicians)
Sorry for the sloppy metaphore.

I spent the weekend working around the house, playing with my steering system, while removing my (sold) front Mag Hy-Tec cover... and reading Sarah Palins book. Great read! Very depressing (how the inside of politics really works) and uplifting (how one person can beat the system with common sense and solid values).
Also, put 3rd Gen plans on hold! Was a heartbeat away from buying an 09 Mega Cab Dually at Hoyt Dodge in Sherman (3rd biggest seller of CTD's in Tx).
Just bad timing with all the craziness coming out of Obama-Land. JMO.
But, guys, it doesn't cost anything to participate in DTR .......SO ?????

Garmin Nuvi's are good units. I've had the Nuvi 200 for a couple of years and it works great and it's simple to use. If I was going to buy a new one, it would be the "W" series wide screen. Some good buys on them right now.

Leaning towards the 200WT. Includes the traffic module, but doesn't have the Bluetooth, MP3, etc that I know we wouldn't use.

The other option is the TomTom 540S. Both similarly priced, around the 135-150 mark.

ive been using my iPhone...but man...its an a whip when i try to see where im going......when im going.....im going to be looking for something soon...but im also considering looking at indash stuff......figure i would have about 200 in an aftermarket radio...and 300 in a GPS...might see if there are any 500-700 indash nav systems out there.......kill 2 birds with one stone....

One place to look is Crutchfield....i really have never gotten anything from them but i do like all the info they have on stuff....

Actually here is one that is on the cheaper side.....but its Dual.....not the best of brands.....kinda the Civic of the car radios....

Garmin maps are the best, IMO. More detail than Tom-Tom's I've played with. Not perfect but none are, I guess.
Garmins updates do seem to be getting there more quickly than others, at least judging by 2009 maps for rural OK?
