So if I replace the speakers and head unit, do I need to add an amp as well? Or is the amp only needed if I were to add subs? I'm a little out of my element when it comes to car audio...

On an unrelated note, I finally had some free time today and tired to get around to accomplishing some projects that have been hanging out. I was going to swap out my 3rd gen trackbar for an adjustable Thuren so that I could get my axle centered back up. Of course, nothing can ever go smoothly. The long tab on the nut at the axle side of the bar broke off, so the nut just spins when I try to loosen the bolt. Any one have any ideas on how to get in there to hold the nut so I can get it off? I don't have any wrench with a small enough head. Short of taking the grinder to the wrench to thin down the head, any other options for holding the nut? Luckily, it broke before the nut came loose so I just put everything back together the way it was.

No amp needed!
You need another Flag Nut. No other way, I know of.
Maybe drill hole in the nut and insert a nail or screw, to hold it in place?
Maybe heat it first to loosen it a bit. Needle nose Vise Lock plyers.
Just throwing out guesses.

Definitely need another flag nut (or I have to weld the current flag back on). But either of those options are dependent on getting the current nut off...

Those are a PITA - might try a long sawzall blade to cut it off... had the OEM axle bolt shear off on the '05 the other day, leaving the flag nut & bolt threads jammed between the bracket & axle tube.

Had to drive 80 miles back to the shop with no trackbar - pretty violent DW over 50MPH & a bump... pretty sure Evan left teeth marks in the seat cushion.

Couldn't put better hardware in 'til I beat the old nut out with a cold chisel & 4lb. Universal Adjusting Tool.

Thumbs down

Question for anyone....
Do floor Jacks loose their Hyd pressure overnight.
Mine did. Had frame on jack stands and axle supported by floor Jack.
This am, axle w/o wheels was fully extended almost to the floor??

Not unusual or does my inexpensive 2.5 ton floor jack have a leak?

Long time....have been pretty busy and haven't been on DTR much.

Justin, I would just go to cartoys and shop around. They have lots of stereos with front cable jacks to hook up to your iphone or ipod. Stereos are relatively cheap now. Mine is an Alpine and has done fine for about 5 years now. RJ mentioned Kenwood and I think they are great too. You don't have to spend a lot of money on a stereo to get a good decent one, unless you go for navigation or something like that.

Mike im looking forward to seeing your new shop soon too. Good seeing you for lunch the other day. Sorry I couldn't help with the moving.

Hopefully we can have a GTG soon. Seems like forever since the last one I could attend.

Since I don't listen to CD's, my old stock radio/tape player and after market Sirrus works fine for me. If mine comes through the pillar speakers, I can't hear it. My driver side door speaker is out, so if anyone has one laying around, I'll gladly take it off your hands.

Don't know. I've never left one on a jack over night without a stand under it. I have never trusted a jack alone of anything. Especially if I have to be under or partially under a vehicle. If I have one handy, I'll even use one when changing a flat.

Also, I'm thinking about a weekend at The Ranch next month....if it cools off some.

No Sawzall here, plus I don't have enough jack to get it high enough for a Sawzall to get underneath. I think I'm going to pick up a cheap wrench at AZ and grind down the sides of the open end so that it will fit through the hole to get a hold on the nut. That project will just have to wait for my next open weekend.

It probably has a slow leak on the inside. My big hydraulic jack has the same issue. No trouble lifting anything, but it will slowly ease down if left under load for long periods.

I stopped by CarToys a while back looking for options to add iPod/aux input to the stock radio. They said it would be cheaper to swap the radio instead of doing the add-on box. The problem is that it's just "radio overload" there with walls and walls of units. I need to do a little studying to know what I'm looking for before I head in there.

Right now, the majority of my sound is through the pillars (so it seems). If I fade completely to the rear, the sound from the rear speakers is pretty low. As for the front doors, I'll need to put my ear down there while adjusting the balance/fade to see what I'm getting out of them.

If up this way...have lots of cheap open ended wrenches and HD grinding wheel at work, if interested.

Just never realized it but all Hyd Jacks slowly bleed down! Had two 12 ton bottle jacks under front axle and 2.5 ton floor jack under rear pumpkin. Left overnight as test. All three settled onto jack stands by morning.
Guess I never left anything jacked up overnight before... till I acquired a second vehicle.

One of these days I may get the new tires and wheels on. Finding time to get up to The Ranch is not easy when kids sports and cool weather honey-do's get started. With my ski slope driveway, I can't do it here.

Never noticed a driveway at your casa. Back street entrance??
And please don't mention tires. Just bgt five Cooper STT's, 305/70/16's for Jeep.....
I'm "rubber poor" till payday!
Had enough cash left over to regear rear axle only. Had to removed front drive shaft to prevent accidental 4x4!

What's up with the "re-gear" and "accidental 4x4"?
