Where to mount air bag compressor?
Where to mount air bag compressor?
Just bought ride rite bags and compressor just looking for advice as to where to mount the compressor? If anyone out there has installed one on their truck let me know where or where not to install it. Thanks

My compressor is mounted under the right rear seat, air tank is underneath the truck in about the same place. Because of noise objections by the family (it's a BIG compressor) it will be relocated under the bed in a custom s/s box to be built after I deal with the "honey do" list, get some time, etc....but the location was chosen in order to get clean/dry air. When I relocate it I'll plumb the air intake inside the truck somewhere.
My compressor is mounted to the rh fender in behind the battery. There is a big thick bracket there that I drilled and tapped (had to use an angle drill) then I just screwed the supplied #10 machine screws. It was an ignorant spot to work in, difficult to hold the compressor and start the screws but it went in. I just oriented it in such a way that the filter could be accesed for periodic cleaning. My tank is mounted to the top of the tranny crossmember on the lh side, the member is u-shaped which had to be built up flat with a small piece of aluminum plate to allow the tank's mtg pad to work. I also didn't like the switch/gauge panel that came with it so I junked that. My gauge now lives where the cig lighter would have, and the switches or valves whatever you want to call them are in the panel below the steering wheel, basically centered.
my compressor is located on the inside of drivers frame rail under rear firewall. on/off switch, psi guage, ball valve located in cab. close valve, hit the switch, once desiered psi is reached, flip switch off. while in motion if the road conditions change and i need more or less air, i simpley flip switch for more air, or reach between my drivers seat and center console(ball valve location, with tube exiting to outside of vehicle, no loud hisss)crack valve to drop to desiered psi. once i drop my load i LEAVE BALL VALVE OPEN so the air can escape in and out of the bags, this really helps for a softer ride when empty. good luck Mark
Wasn't for height....truck rides high by it's self...even with 1800lb. pin wt. Rails awful close to the Fiver. Gives me more stability and a nicer ride loaded. Need better shocks also. Another wish list item.

I have the T Rex suspension and it lifts the front 2.5". So as soon as I have any pin weight I am blinding oncoming traffic and getting hi beams flashed often. I figured a set of air bags would level off the truck.
Towing with the T Rex is very nice, just need to level it off a bit when loaded.

Thanks for the advice guys. Found a place drives side engine compartment. Scotty I am using Firestone ride rite to keep headlights on the ground when towing. Part # 2071(airbags) and 2097 (compressor and gauges). Thanks again.

Scotty,
I recently installed Air Lift bags on mine for that exact reason. My truck is leveled and I like it that way, but with any kind of load my headlights are in the tree tops. The system keeps it level with any load and rides great empty or loaded. I had held off for quite a while due to the bad write ups on this site about a year ago re: 3rd Gen Air bag systems. After installing mine I can see why Mopar Mudder had the complaints he expressed. For a truck that has been leveled the issue is moot however. My truck gets used off road empty and with a 750 lb four wheeler in the bed. No problems what so ever.
