Towing concern?

Ok, so we just bought a 23 foot Star Stream. The GVWR is 5,800 lbs and it has nice rounded front and back and smooth aluminum sides, front and top. Will this be much of a towing concern with the truck. I know weight wise it "should" not be, but with 3.55s, will using O/D be too much? Its the stock transmission, but I have a transgo shift kit, but just need to install it. We live on the prairies, so not many hills to deal with.

You will be fine, the gears will hurt you a little on the top end in OD, I know from experience. I did the transgo few years back, decent upgrade that won't hurt the wallet. Now go camping!

Thanks for the input, we pick up the trailer tomorrow. Hopefully we can try it tomorrow night. I have a dump trailer that I regularly tow 10k in, but its low and tucks in behind the truck and was slightly concerned about the rv being a huge sail behind the truck.

Shouldn't be a problem at all, I tow a 9500lb (loaded) 5th wheel with the truck in my signature. I tow in OD if the hills are moderate and on a recent trip we averaged right at 12mpg. I don't use the cruise control unless its pretty flat however as its too aggressive trying to maintain speed and wastes fuel.

Well, apparently I did not have much to be worried about. She tows like a dream. 68 mph and 16 mpg. Coming back we pulled in front of a Chebby gasser towing a smallish race car trailer. It was all he could do to go by me. I would catch him on the hills, then he would try and leave on the downhills. It was pretty funny.
