Cool Suspension Problems

Towing 13K Fifth Wheel with my 04 Dually. The ride is really bad. I get a very harsh ride in the truck. Any suggestions?

Is the trailer level, does it have springs or Torx Flex axles, is all the load ahead of the center point of the axles, is your hitch center on center or before or aft of center in truck, are you over weight for the springs/axles. A little more info is important. PK

Sounds like you may be pushing the weight limit of the payload on your truck. You stated you have a 90 gallon fuel tank, when full of fuel that's about 650lbs plus the 100lbs for the tank. OK we are now at 750lbs, now add your other stuff you have in the cab and bed, about another 500lbs. OK now add yourself, we will say 250lbs and oh yeah mammason, 150lbs. So now we are at 1650lbs. Ok add your tounge weight, roughly 2400lbs, now we are at 4klbs. With that type of weight it may just ride hard.

Harsh Ride

Thanks for the input guy's. My hitch in directly over axle. I have springs and shocks on the Trailer. I do not have a 90 gal fuel tank. Just the tank on the truck,35 Gal. I figure it's the springs and shocks on the truck. On my 96 2500 I didn't have the harsh ride and the weight was the same. Pin weight should be ok since this is a one ton dually and the other was a 2500. Anybody change their shocks or spring set up with any results?

What are your shocks like ? new or old ??

I changed my shocks shortly after i got the truck, since it had the original ones on it, with 134k. made a world of diff empty and loaded with a 10k gooseneck behind it.

You need to find out how much pin weight you have! Not enough will let your helpers bounce on the main leafs. Too much and the Dodge will be nose high!
