I just got to Wendover, Utah. Wyoming was decent weather-wise. Utah was a treat. Every valley alternated between sunshine and snow squalls. Salt Lake City is beautiful with mountains on every horizon.

Only on a couple of hills did I have to reach down to 4th gear with the Dodge. I did pretty much 80 mph the whole way.

Well Donner right now is having some pretty bad weather right now with storm warning on the CA side. once you get into CA , you want to keep that truck and trailer in the first two lanes and your speed down, speed limit with trailer is only 55 mph.

Thanks for the headsup on the Pass. How long is it supposed to last?

Chains required over Donner Summit right now. Here's a link to the California Department of Transportation web site where you can check road conditions. Just plug in "80" for I-80:

http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

Weather over Donner Summit:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_foreca...=230&map.y=149

Looks like snow through Tuesday with chance of snow continuing Wednesday and Thursday.

I didn't see a single Nebraska, Wyoming, or Utah state trooper and even though every vehicle I saw was speeding, somehow we all managed not to crash.

P.S. - The 75 mph speed limit is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

You may have seen some Utah patrol and not even known it. White Ford F 150, late model blue mustang are a couple that come to mind in southern Utah.

Just got into Sacramento. The Donner Pass was clear. I timed it so I crossed at 12PM.

A note on the 55 mph speed limit: I can't believe how insanely slow it is. I was actually bored driving. And the other drivers commuting were giving me dirty looks. Screw them. Go complain to your legislature if you don't like my pace.

Thanks for all the replies.

LOL Pete , yea I dont agree with the speed limit that is happening here, I think something has to be done about it , either bring the truck limit up to match the cars or slow the cars down to match the trucks.

Pete, if you were driving fast you weren't in commute traffic.

Pete,

How are you able to get on the Internet so frequently during your roadtrip?

If you are still in Sacramento today (Tuesday, March 22) looks like the latest storm will require chains to get back over Donner Summit unless you wait until Wednesday.

I use a Verizon Wireless PC card plugged into my laptop. It gives me broadband internet access in major cities and dialup speed in most of the rest of the country. Here's the link:

The only downside is my ISP won't accept my outgoing emails. I'll have to setup a Hotmail account eventually.

I'll be in Sacramento until Sunday and then we head north to Oregon for the next job.
