Omaha to Sacramento on I-80

I'm driving a 2000 CTD dually pulling a 5k lb trailer for my job. Any trouble spots or sights I should look for? This is my first time going to the left coast. I hope the weather is decent in the mountains. If I think of it I'll snap some pics.

I-80 has some of the steepest longest grades I've seen in my limited travels.

Parleys Canyon in Utah, Donners Pass in California.

Take them slow on both sides and you should be fine.

Watch out for the wind in Wyoming!

Keep an eye on the weather, it can still snow this time of year and you'll be going over some high passes.

Watch your weather forecasts. We're supposed to get weather this weekend. CA can require chains on trailers.

Some good grades, but with 5K you should be fine.

Where you from in So. Jersey? I'm heading West myself in a few weeks but a Southern route.

You aint kidding. Rock Springs Wyoming has the only airport in the country where the windsock is a bowling ball on a chain.

Good your taking 80 instead of 70. Look at today's (Mar 18) webcam:

We're not too far apart. I'm in Galloway off route 30. Good luck on your trip.

Thanks. I just got the truck back from service. They redid the brakes, installed new injectors, and installed a remanufactured NV5600. They also replaced a cracked windshield wiper fluid reservoir. Hopefully that should give me an edge.

I drive Donner Pass a lot so don't think of it as steep but I was wondering, aren't Interstates limited in how steep they can be?

That is the standard for interstate freeways, the one exception is in Tennessee on I-24 on Monteagle Mountain.

I think I'll head out this afternoon and try to get to Wyoming by the end of the day.

Donner pass can be tough in rough weather, but otherwise not particularly tough. As so many have already stated, Wyoming is really, really windy (the towing companys out here stay pretty busy dragging wrecked vehicles off the highway), also the pass coming down in to Laramie can be very slick, take it slow.
