Good towing turbo?
Good towing turbo?
I get high EGT's towing over mountain passes and have to back out of the throttle
to stay below 1250 deg. Definitely need more air, but I don't want a monster turbo that will take 10 minutes to spool up with the small fueling enhancements I'm running- RV275 injectors and an EZ box.
Anyone have a good turbo to recommend for towing heavy?

I had a PDR hx35/40-14 on my 97 215 and it did really good for spooling and egt but it barked badly if I wasn't careful letting of the fuel in a hard pull. I sold it to a friend with an 01 HO 6spd with a Puck and 4". We drove it after I put the turbo on and his egt was low - ~1150 if I remember. He really needed more fuel! The A2k on my 03 is even better. It's a LOT bigger exh turbine than the hx14 and still spools up FAST. I only hit 1225egt with 100 hp and 1350 with 160 hp. Craig
Ranger,
How much boost have you got? I have a 210hp '99 in a MH with 275RV injectors. I get 25 lbs boost now. I have a EZ in the box ready to go on. I get 1200 degrees now on a long hard pull at 19,000 lbs gross.
Have you considered a Snow water/methanol injection system?

Jim,
I bet your EGT will jump real good. Maybe I'm wrong. I wonder if you can turnbuckle your WG, prolly depends on the turbo you're running.
However, you'll be glad you put the EZ on it. I'd rather have to back out of it for EGT's, than to keep my foot planted and watch people blow on by. Just my $0.02 worth.

jauguston- I get about 27 lbs boost up here at altitude- 5000 to 11,000 ft up.
On a trip to the west coast at sea level with just the EZ (not the 275's) I got about 34 lbs boost- just about the max recommended for the stock HX-35.
JyRO- when I have to back out of it, people DO blow by me

I live @ 5000' and all my towing is in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. BIG passes & grades. My PDR HX40-16 cools waaaaaaay better than the HX35. Yes, it does spool slower than the stock HX-35 did, but that's expected. Not an issue. I don't back out of it & I blow by them.
