Re:Getting Started

Take a look at the thread "Hotshot Driving" down the way in this forum. It'll give you some food for thought. Also try going to search and typing in Hotshot Driving. There's been a few mentions lately. Must be an epidemic.,

Re:Getting Started

Go to your local DPS and ask for the DOT officer ask him about the rules and regs commercial hauling. After that find out how much insurance is for your DOT number it reuires about 500,000 coverage i think and then decide if you want to do it. When you run commercial there are a bunch of new rules and regs that you have to deal with and you'll need a class A license too. Better make sure you can make a whole lot of money. Other words been there done that. Good Luck

Re:Getting Started

I am researching this subject now. Check out www.horizontransport.com and on there they have a good connection with Brown & Brown for insurance. I am not sure what prices are to be your own carrier, but I have heard about $4k to $7k a year. I am probably gonna contract out with Horizon to start with and then maybe move into haulin' cars around like Haulin' in Dixie. I want to make sure I enjoy this before going into business for myself. Good luck!

Re:Getting Started

You can try ACE or Acme trucking one of them is in Seguin cant remember which one. They require you to have a trailer dual tandem usaully and no less than 35ft I think. They would prefer a 40footer tho. If you buy one get with a dovetail it will give you more cargo options.
