G/N questions

My 95 L/B had a G/N in it. the steel runners or supports are still there but just the hitch is gone. There are a front and rear 1/2 thick by 4" wide steel, perpindicular to the frame and the side plates are bolted to the frame on the outside. Beefy lookin stuff. I need something that will be flush with the bed, hiding type?? I know very little on these. Also are they all the same bolt pattern??

I would imagine that any manufacturer would want you to use their mounting system or there wouldn't be a warranty, or any responsibility for the company if something was to happen to the hitch. I've seen a few different brands, and they do mount the hitch differently. You could try calling different companies and see if they'd give you some dimensions to see if their hitch would fit your runners.

Actually it sounds like my HIGHJACKER 16 that I have in mine.

I would doubt that he has a Hi Jacker. It is made in Victoria Canada and the rails on my Hi Jacker are parallel to the frame rails not perpendicular. It sounds more like a Reese to me.

One of our local trailer places wouldent even look at it. If he didnt put it in he said it would unwarrantyable. Personally I dont think he has a clue on GNs. If you install them for a livin I would think you should know what might fit.

It's probably not that he doesn't have clue, it's probably more of a liability issue. With all the blood-thirsty, bottom-feeding, money-grubbing lawyers around these days just itchin' to sue somebody, business really have to cover their backsides if they want to remain in business.

Can someone tell me how the ball is supposed to be mounted on one of these weld in systems? My truck came with a GN hitch and the ball appears to basically be held in via a large bolt underneath.

This however leaves for some "play" i.e. you can lift the ball up about half an inch or so before the bolt bangs into the hitch and disallows it from coming out.

My concern is when loading stuff on a GN trailer (i.e. a car) when there is a LEVERING effect (i.e. the trailer pulls UP on the ball and tries to lift the back of the truck up). Is that bolt going to hold up? Is there a special kind of bolt this should be (or should it be a hitch pin....)?

I have a similar set up on my truck. It is two rails going accross the bed. Mine is a Drawtight/Reese brand. I had the fifth wheel set up for it but sold it with my camper. I use a gooseneck ball adapter that pins on the rails. They are offered at most U-Haul dealers and Camper World locations. If not that brand then they might be able to help you identify it as most of these are used in the RV industry. Hope this helps.
