Factory Wiring

I have been working on getting my truck ready to pull my trailer and had to do some troubleshooting on the trailer electrical connection. Maybe it is just me, but the factory wiring appears to smaller than what I am used to. Has anyone had any problems with the factory wiring. (I have two axles or four brakes.)

I have not had any trouble with my trailer brakes. Did you buy the trailer new? If not, then maybe someone has change the wire.

I haven't had problems yet because I haven't connected it up yet. It will be connecting to a new trailer. I have already used a meter to test the wiring for wires going to the right spot. My only concern is the gauge of the factory wiring. It looks inadequate to me.

Just plug and go, after you've installed and adjusted your brake controller.

Newer wire has different insulation, so it looks smaller. Might actually be the same gauge wire with thinner insulation. They do that to reduce weight and bundle size.

It's not all that uncomon to have problems with the factory wiring especially on RV's. They use as small a wire as they think they can get away with. they commonly use 14ga wire, and while technically large enough the voltage drop gets you because of the length of run. They also make some of the worst connections I've ever seen to boot.
