7k Car Trailer Brake Issue

Hey Guys, I have a 2003 Anderson 7k Car Trailer. Tamdom Axles and one is a brake axle.

I'm having issues with my brakes....So the story starts by letting my buddy borrow it and it came back without brakes So I've checked my ground, its ok, I'm getting juice back to the magnets in the wheel. I can slide a peice of metal over the magnets and you feel very little resistance. On both sides. I have the Brake setup in the cab turned all the way up. No difference. Am I looking at a Brake controller issue or a Magnet Issue?

Thoughts? Help!?!?

Thanks
Rick

What should the brake controller be putting out?

Truck running, checked the voltage at the truck plug, 12.94volts.
On the Low setting, it stays at the 12.94volts.
Turned up max, It goes to 13.06volts.

That doesnt seem right to me.

What kind of numbers should I have?

Thanks
Rick

reading floating voltage(no load) can be inaccurate. dicconnect the wires at the backing plate and hook 12v battery direct(good breakaway batt works). brake application= wiring or controler. no app. = mag. check your grounds again.

Have you checked the mechanical adjustment of the brakes?

I tried this out today. Magnets are good. So I had my father come over and hook up his truck with the same controller that I have and His truck worked. So we swapped Controllers and its fixxed.

So Now I need to find a good but inexpensive controller.

Thanks Guys!

Which controller do you have now?

Prodigy is a good inexpensive controller and the best price I've found is at RVWholesalers.

I bought a CHEAP controller from something like autozone or tsc for half the price of prodigy, probably less that half. That was three years ago, still works fine to this day as long as goats don't eat through the trailer wires. Hauled tractors, 9k of scrap(7k trailer) and never once had a problem from the controller.

Just depends on what you call cheap compared to what I call cheap.
