Question factory cd player wiring with a sub

I am going to install a sub and amp in my truck and have found that on the back of the radio that there is a plugin spot for a subwoofer. I asked the dealership and they said nobody ever messes with the factory ones and just put an aftermarket one in. I don't want to do that. I would love to install a factory sub instead of making my own box and wiring. Does anybody know what the plug is or if I can get a sub to plug directly in or not. I have the 4- speaker cd only system on the laramie "j" package. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I just installed a sub and amp in my 05 last weekend. I removed the passenger kickpanel and tapped into the amp wires there. I installed an amp that had speaker level inputs, and just ran the wires I spliced into to the back where I put the amp.

Right front: (+) grey w/ yellow tracer
(-) grey w/ blue tracer

left front: (+) green w/ yellow tracer
(-) green w/ white tracer

Thanks for the info on the speaker wire colors. Where exactly did you put your amp? I was thinking about trying to fit mine into the bottom of the center console storage area, but it might be too tight...

Also, any tips for running the wires from the kick panel to the back where the amp is? Just sneak it under the carpet using a hanger or something? And when you hooked your power cable to the battery, does it matter which battery??? I assume either is fine. Did you enter the engine compartment thru the grommet that the hood release cable uses?

Thanks!

You should be able to use the Sub out on the radio, it may have a built in crossover. I know my SRT-10 came with a factory 10" sub and the radio is the same. The amp for it is in the center console like you talked about, it does get a little warm in their, but Dodge must think it is OK

What OEM head unit do you have? There must be a way to interface with it better than grabbing a line level signal from the front or rear speakers.

mine is the stock single disc player with no tape player. My fience has a liberty and it has the infinity system with the tape cd combo. I called around to alot of dealerships to findout what the wiring harness looks like and couldn't find one that stocks it. I am thinking if I have to setup my own system that I will mount the amp under the drivers seat (being that the passanger one has a jack under it) and putting the alpine 10" dvc sub in the bottom center council. The measurements I got off of mine were about 6 1/2" deep to the carpet and 11"x14" on the upper lip and 9"x11" on the very inside. That should be plenty for just about any 10"sub I would think. The part numbers on the jeep liberty sub I am looking at are sub= 82206957 and a wiring harness or a wedge adapter depending what catalog you look at = 82208080.

The service manual shows a factory sub-woofer option. The speaker mounts on the back of the center console with the harness under the center console on so equiped trucks. Don't know if it would be worth messing with though. There are sub woofer connections on some radios, but I haven't looked close enough yet at the wiring diagram to tell. Probably easiest to just do like the other posts recommend.

I just finished a sub install in my 04 with the factory CD/Cass (RAZ) headunit and Infinity premium system. The only Plugin I have is for an external CD changer. I spliced my line level RCA connections in to the Front left and right channel wires right behind the head unit. Since the Infinity system has an amplifier, the output from the head unit appears to be line level compatable. I measured it at 3/4 volume (26) and saw between 3 and 6.5 volts at the amp. If you choose this option, be sure the amp you choose can handle line level inputs signals past the normal 4V. I ran the RCA inputs under the door sill trim and mounted the amp under the back seat. I then installed my 12' sub by replacing the lower center console with a sub box I bought off ebay. Seller was named hot-boxes . It wasn't cheap, but it matched my factory upholstery EXACTLY and sounds great, built and shipped to my door in a week. An extremely stealthy install was important to me. I'd like to keep going and replace the head unit, but to do all that would be over $1K, and I don't think It would sound that much better and would probably get my truck molested. That's how I did it, and it's working just fine for me.
