How well does the BHAF fit on a 1st gen, and what are some things i would need to do to secure it under the hood. also, could you lead me to where to find the covers for them better on the sight, which things do i click on. thanks

Unlike me, I'd say you could do without the pre-filter. I'm doing 600 miles a weeks in salt spray, rain, etc. so a pre-filter for me is a necessary item. I've seen lots of guys running without it though. The heat shield supposedly keeps the hot engine air from being drawn in, so you have a cooler, more dense charge at the intercooler and is something you should have regardless of how many miles you put on it. I have the heat shield template, and if I ever get my BHAF, we'll make a pair of them when I get down for a visit. -Dad-

Actually I don't know how well they fit in the first gens. With the second gens, most guys just lay them in the place where the stock airbox was. You can daisy-chain a few tie-wraps together and lash it down if you desire. I guess a stainless hose clamp would look too. As far having difficulity finding the covers on that site, I don't think it's actually listed. It's not the most user friendly site I've been to. If you call them and give them the number listed earlier PN WR3325-105, and the color you want, they'll know what it is. I'm sure they sell lots of them.

called for my outerwears prefilter ...
lady i spoke with was GREAT
she said they sell so many that is the only # she has memorized
she then went on to tell me that she was a dodge girl and chit chat'd pleasantly for a few minutes about her '99 gasser, said she just wished she had a cummins in it ... they'll definitely get my business again!

Well Shaders, I suppose you could try it without the heatshield & cover. Just keep a close eye on it (as far as dirt goes). I like the idea of keeping some heat away from the filter, and junk from spraying up. It might only take one big puddle on one weekend day to soak the filter.....then what ?
When I took my stock filter box off the truck, there was a solid line of grime/silt on the bottom of it from road spray.
I've got the template for the heatshield too if you need it before Commatoze gets to you.

I'm using a mount/splash guard made by Old Smoky, unfortunately he's no longer making them. Perhaps someone has the plans for them? There is a picture in my photo gallery that shows the BHAF mount pretty well so you'll have an idea of how it's set up.
