To make it work, you don't need anything else. The end that fits on the stock air box fits on the filter. A heat shield wouldn't be a bad idea, and theres a template to make on in the FAQ section.

I got a piece of 4" exhaust and cut off a 1" piece of it and put it inside the opening on the filter, then put the intake hose to turbo over the outside of the filter opening and tighten down. I heard that it makes the filter opening more rigid when you clamp down on it. Almost 30,000 miles on mine and no problems out of it.

I highly recommend this. If you like, you can also drill the end of the filter (plastic part) put a grommet in it, and use your filter minder if you like.
The outers wear is a good recommendation for keeping the filter cleaner, longer, but you will lose some air flow.

It was just a suggestion.
How many miles do you think you will be able to go on a BHAF?

Many go well over 50k. I had 30k on my 99 when it disipeared, filter looked near new. And that is with a lot of back roads.

Oh yeah...I know, I went 50K on one and 45K on the other.
I was just asking him, because he's "...not an auto. tech for nothing."

I got a little over 20,000 on mine...somewhere around there. I know warranty runs out in 10,000....anyhow, last time I had the outerwears off the filter looked brand new! Noticed the outerwears today though and it is filthy as all get out!

Drive with the outerwears on for a while then take it off , you won't believe the difference , but the filter will get wet if you don't have it on when driving or even washing your truck.

im guessing 30-40k on my filter, i drive 90% interstate driving, however i work in a small farming community where harvest (now) is very dusty, on the flip side though, itll be snow and cold in about a month and 2k miles and it wont be nearly as dusty anymore

I love the noise my bhaf makes, yesterday some punk wouldn't let me merge down to a single lane, he kept speeding up and slowing down, well, he had his window open, perfect timeing, I put the turbo right on his window, exhaust right in the door, hit the old hx40, foot to the floor, spooled to 40psi, screaming like no tomorrow, smoke rolln, it scared this teen punk he backed off big time, you could see that look on his face when he heard the turbo, like WTH is that. Needless to say that v6 was no match, and I left more than 15 car lengths between him and me, gota love 1000ft lbs of pure turbo screaming whoop can
