Some info I found on Fuel Lubricity. I think Ill start using lubricants again.
Any anything you want to know about the VP44, very very detailed. This place sells components, if you were good you could rebuild one your self it looks like.

Just click on Vp44 and a drop down list of parts comes up.
Im having problems finding anything made published about failure

Your post was also good on the number of VP-44's that are currently on trucks that are so low on F.P. because of a bad or dead lift pump! The number of VP-44's that fail between the two Dodge dealers here where I live is pretty high! The two Dodge Cummins Technicians that I deal with will get a 24 valve truck in for poor performance, hook their mechanical gauge up to the port on the canister or pump and look at the gauge to see 3-5lbs at idle! That is pretty common in these two dealers!
I would like to see the numbers from D/C too.

I don't think the VP-44 is as bad as its made to be on here the stocker went 197k on my truck. And $1000 for a rebuild isn't bad, figures up to $.005 per mile, tires figure to about $.014 a mile, or more.

.....actually all I had to do was to run the labor ops code and the puter brought the number up for me. I then estimated how many CP ones I did using a conservative #. Either way you look at it, for a part that costs that much, I would expect a better track record. I can only hope the one I installed on mine in 2005 will last a good long time.
I know a guy thats got 240k on the stock lift pump and vp44. I also beleive that the vp44 is not that bad of a pump. I had 142k on my truck when the lift pump when and took the vp44 with it. I'm hoping this one will go just as long.
My Vp and lift pump both went out at 103,000 miles and had no signs that anything was wrong until the truck shut off while driving down the road. I think thats not too bad considering i have driven 2,000 miles since it was replaced in November and 9,000 since i bought it last March so if i put on roughly the same # of miles the next few years the pump should last longer than the original. I am also convinced that the previous owner had a comp on it but the dealer had no idea. I plan on adding a Edge Juice w/ attitude so i'll have gauges. Theres my 2 cents
